Fragas Falantes – vinte anos, vinte tipos de letra

Book presentation.Graphic Design, Typographic Design

“Fragas Falantes” is a monography that presents part of two decades of the graphic design author’s work, specifically linked to font design. This meeting of projects was possible thanks to systematic collection and analysis work, started in 2011, in the Jorge dos Reis’s studio. As a consequence of the research, the exhibition “From epigraphy to calligraphy from typography to poetry” (2013) was presented at the Centro Cultural Raiano in Idanha-a-Nova (Portugal), with its respective catalogue, during the National Typography Meeting, bringing together a selection of works representing the four paradigmatic areas of the author’s career: poster design, book design, corporate identity and typefaces.

This large format notebook book brings together the work of graphic and typographic designer Jorge Reis in creating 20 fonts, some of which were commissioned by institutions such as the National Railway (Entroncamento, 1997), the “Pele and the Curtumes” Museum (Alcanena, 1999), the municipal councils of Guarda (2002) and Alandroal (2013), the Ateneu Comercial de Lisboa (2000), schools such as Lisbon’s Faculdade de Belas-Artes (2010, 2011, 2016) and Escola Superior de Tecnocologias e Artes (2016), some newspapers and literary anthologies (2001, 2004, 2008), but also a record label (2006), a “Performance e Artes da Terra” Festival (2005), a Scottish Sculpture Workshop (2009), a British Institute of Ethnomusicology (2003) and a musical research meeting (1996), another area of deep personal interest for the author, as expressed in some of his essays.
