SUMMARY:Design Month Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our world is in upheaval. Crises and uncertainties dominate. The time for lip service is over. The question is “What now!” – what to do? What is needed now? The what and how of previous answers are not enough. We need a different what\, a new how. We need new and different answers – solutions\, visions and methods that offer a way out. What potential can we offer to counter the dystopias? One thing is clear: Not one discipline alone will “save the world”. It needs the creative power of many – it needs idea generators and implementers in many areas. \nWhat now! How can we use our potential for a good future? \nIn different areas: Mobility\, Food\, Industry 4.0\, Housing & Architecture or Circular Economy & Resources. We are looking for answers and scenarios to questions such as: \n\nMobility – own or use?Which mobility solutions will really move us forward?\nLab meat & co – how can scientific successes reach our bellies?\nWaste as a raw material\, repairing instead of producing – how can we boost the circular economy?\nIndustry & automation – how can industry return to cities?\nModular\, sustainable\, flexible building and living:What kind of architecture and urban design do people need?\nHow can we use AI as an opportunity instead of demonizing it?\n\n  \nA small preview of the extensive program at this year’s Design Month Festival Graz

SUMMARY:WONDER FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:Everyone WONDER!\n\n\n\n\n\nWONDER 2023 will take place from Thursday 19 October to Sunday 5 November 2023\, from Tuesday to Sunday each time. \nThe festival takes a look at the future with innovative ideas from designers\, artists\, entrepreneurs\, students\, citizens… And we want to see that translated into your proposal. We focus on these creative fields: design\, arts\, film\, music and literature. Here\, optimism and positivism are central. We believe that creative minds come up with solutions to our societal challenges and want to convey this faith in the future to our visitors and thereby inspire and enthuse them. \nAnyone can submit a proposal for WONDER: both as an individual\, student\, organisation\, company\, or school\, … both from Belgium and internationally. This can be about a project\, exhibition\, installation\, event\, workshop\, activity\, etc. \nIdeas that are still looking for a connection with other partners can also be submitted. We encourage cooperation between different parties. \nWe aim for a mainly free programme (although events and workshops can be offered for a fee). \nThe Budafabriek will again be the main location\, but we wish to include several other venues in the city centre. If you wish to participate with a location\, you are responsible for that location as well as its permanence. If you do not yet have a location\, this can also be specified in the registration form and we will look for your ideal spot. \nWONDER addresses a very broad target group: from secondary and higher education classes to architects and designers\, from companies to policy-makers\, families and interested citizens. \n\n

SUMMARY:Kaunas Art Book Faire
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 5th “Kaunas Art Book Fair”. In a landscape where the involvement of Lithuanian artists in international art book fairs has become commonplace\, the Kaunas Art Book Fair aspires to carve out a distinct identity for Kaunas and Lithuania on the global publishing map. Organized by the Kaunas Photo Gallery\, our mission is to invigorate the city’s realm of art publishing and provoke contemplation on the essence and worth of the art book. The Kaunas Art Book Fair is free\, inclusive event\, accessible to all\, and is scheduled to take place at the Kaunas Gallery on October 7-8.\nThis year\, we will represent over 19 publishers\, artists\, and bookstores\, each showcasing their unique publications. Additionally\, organisers are excited to offer a range of engaging activities\, including creative workshops for children\, book presentations\, enlightening lectures\, and captivating film screenings. The central theme of this year’s fair revolves around the art of illustration and the creative endeavors of contemporary illustrators. \nThe fair encompasses a multifaceted approach that delves into and dissects the intricacies of the publishing process. We extend a warm invitation to publishers\, artists\, collectors\, bookshops\, and other innovative initiatives\, both from Lithuania and abroad\, to present and distribute their publications at our event. Throughout the fair\, visitors can immerse themselves in diverse book exhibitions\, attend enlightening lectures\, witness engaging presentations\, participate in book signing sessions\, engage in stimulating discussions\, and partake in hands-on workshops focused on the craft of bookmaking. By providing a platform for connection and discourse over the course of these two days\, the Kaunas Art Book Fair endeavors to nurture a sense of community among avid art book enthusiasts and publishers alike. \nThe idea of the “Kaunas Art Book Fair” is filled by a series of keywords: art albums\, photo books\, zines\, journals\, catalogues\, limited editions\, independent publishing and autonomy\, the freedom to experiment and create\, paper and print craftsmanship\, and the exploration of margins and peripheries in the realm of publishing. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n © Andrius Staniulis\n \n \n \n \n \n © Andrius Staniulis\n \n \n \n \n \n © Andrius Staniulis\n \n \n\n\nC O N T A C T \n\nkaunasartbookfair@gmail.com \n  \n\nF U R T H E R   I N F O R M A T I O N\n\nclick here

SUMMARY:NEXT23 // Contemporary SA designers and craft artisans set sights on global
DESCRIPTION:From voluptuous\, earthy ceramics and traditional-with-a-twist textiles to intricately patterned hand-woven cloth in seasonal colours\, the latest in South African creativity and artisanal mastery will be on show as part of NEXT23 at Decorex Cape Town\, the country’s leading decor and design showcase\, which runs at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 22 to 25 June 2023. \nAn annual presentation of export-worthy designs\, the NEXT Trade Exhibition is proudly presented by the Craft and Design Institute (CDI)\, a South African non-profit with over two decades of success in developing creative people\, small businesses\, and the craft and design sector at large. The showcase\, which is coordinated by the CDI’s Fran Stewart\, is aimed largely at assisting buyers who are sourcing for the global market\, while bolstering local retailers too. NEXT has over several years attracted international trade buyers annually from a diverse array of countries such as Denmark\, France\, Sweden\, Italy and the US\, among others. \nFor 2023\, there are 24 exhibitors who hail from across the nation and represent the best of South African craft and design – a balanced blend of well-established and award-winning names\, mid-career designers and newcomers. What links them is quality of their output and high production capacity to meet potential export demands. \n© Love Supreme \nAll of the NEXT23 exhibitors have been coached through the CDI’s export development programme\, which has supported over 70 businesses since inception. This programme has been running for several years and was initiated and run with the support of the Dutch Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI). \n\nNEXT was launched in 2018\, and has grown annually. This is the sixth consecutive year that the CDI has staged the exhibition (having gone entirely virtual during Covid)\, and the 2023 showcase builds on the momentum of previous success stories. Says Stewart\, ‘Having witnessed the development and evolution of these exhibitors over time\, it is particularly pleasing to see how their design sensibility has deepened as their commercial viability increases. We are really heartened when we see local makers being able to expand their businesses by broadening the size of their buying audiences through access to export market support\, such as that provided by us at the CDI.’ NEXT23 will have a physical iteration at Decorex Cape Town\, to enable visiting buyers – and members of the public – to view the new and exciting collections and ranges. Alongside this\, a digital catalogue of the exhibition enables those not able to physically attend the show to purvey all the fresh directions online and access information about each of the exhibitors. \nPieces by all 24 NEXT23 participants will be on display for all four days of Decorex Cape Town\, between 10h00 and 18h00\, where guests will be able to engage with the CDI and the exhibitors themselves. \n  \n\n  \n\n  \nC O N T A C T \n\ninfo@thecdi.org.za \n\n  \nF U R T H E R   I N F O R MA T I O N \nclick here \n  \n

These knowledge exchange platforms gather people in a sharing space\, to learn and spark new ideas. \nThe Creative Exchanges and the #cocreateDESIGN FESTIVAL will explore the design of better systems\, processes and products that can benefit citizens\, the environment\, and lead to a more prosperous circular and green economy. The hope is to create a broader community of diverse skills and perspectives; and inspire collaborative action. \nThe main theme for the event is South Africa’s future is circular – Reimagining our world: circular design in SA.   \nThe first Creative Exchange will ask: How can we cocreate new ways to produce\, consume and live while respecting our natural resources? \nIn July\, the Creative Exchange will be Reimagining style and travel: circularity in Fashion and tourism. \nThese discussions will explore a little deeper into what being circular means in an African context\, and why the design of better systems\, processes and products are vital\, and unpack major collaborate efforts such as the South African Plastics Pact. \n  \n  \n\n  \nC O N T A C T \n\nNatasha Prince\nnatasha.prince@thecdi.org.za \n  \n\nF U R T H E R   I N F O R M A T I O N \nclick here

SUMMARY:Semana Africana / African Week 2023
DESCRIPTION:Under the banner of “Lusophony” and multiculturalism with special emphasis on heritage and sustainability\, which are envisioned as anchors of the Municipality’s cultural programming in 2023 as well as a transversal idea to the Covilhã Action Plan as a UNESCO Creative City in Design\, the event showed the possibilities of co-creation and relationships with Portuguese-speaking African nations and had the High Sponsorship of the President of the Portuguese Republic. \nAfrican designers\, models\, chefs\, artists\, and authors showcased their works as part of a community-wide\, free event. \nThe collaboration between the municipality and the Mozambican organizations QuaQua Design and AKINO\, in association with the University of the Beira Interior (UBI)\, made the event possible. \nThe Portuguese Curators Cristina Vieira and Madalena Pereira were responsible for the initiatives in the areas of fashion design\, gastronomy\, literature\, craftwork\, music\, sculpture and other arts. \nThe week’s events\, which include the exhibition\, literary discussions\, talks on design and sustainability\, and gastronomic tastings\, begin on May 23rd at the Banco de Portugal Building. \nThe Sustainable Fashion Show\, held on May 24th at the Covilhã Municipal Theatre\, was designed as a demonstration featuring collections from numerous designers from Portuguese-speaking African nations who live in and outside of Portugal. This display of the fashion collections was combined with musical performances by EPABI and recitations of African poetry by ASTA and university lecturers. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n \n \n \n ©Município da Covilhã\n \n \n\n  \n\n  \nC O N T A C T \nclick here \nF U R T H E R   I N F O R M A T I O N \ncidade.criativa@cm-covilha.pt
