SUMMARY:Exhibition «Mi-temps» at Cité du design
DESCRIPTION:The Cité du Design poroposes a special exhibition in the framework of the UEFA EURO 2016. Mi-Temps (Half-Time) reveals the universe of soccer\, its history and its future\, through its fundamental elements: balls\, field\, myths created around the players and the clamour of supporters\, which give it its force and power. The exhibition is a journey through objects\, artworks\, balls of collection\, videos and playful digital interaction\, to question this environment that seems immutable. But what it will be in some decades? Ball\, field\, supporters\, even players\, what will be their evolution? Numerous scenarios can be explored considering the innovations developed by researchers\, industrials\, and the the proposals coming from the imagination of worldwide creators. \nCurator: Noémie Bonnet Saint Georges \nSee more at: www.citedudesign.com \n \n \n

SUMMARY:3. Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne 2017
DESCRIPTION:Working Promesse\, \nShifting Work Paradigms – Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne 2017 \nThe Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne 2017 will present a state of the art and a great experiment\, a giant laboratory\, entitled Working Promesse focused on the shifting work paradigms. \nWork is one of the major preoccupations of our society. For us all\, work generates income and status; a promise of emancipation and prospect. Offshoot of the dream of a generalised full-employment\, work is at the heart of political and economic attentions\, but at the start of this 21st century\, it is changing and transforming. From digital labour to the share\, the world of work is being reshaped; it is inventing new organisations\, new services but also new throes and new hopes. Designers\, companies and the Saint-Etienne territory will gather in 2017 around this thematic in order to confront perspectives\, ideologies\, innovations and desires. And it is with the participation of the public that we will work towards this promise. \nFor this 10th edition of Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne\, UNESCO Creative Cities of Design will represented by the invitation of Detroit as Honour guest and a special programme linked to the network. \nSeveral calls for projects are linked to the Biennial: \n\nCall for projects for designers and companies – deadline: 11th May 2016\nCall for projects “Banc D’essai 2017” on urban furniture and objects prototypes to be tested in public space – deadline 4th July 2016\nCall for projects “Rue de la République du design” on the creative occupations of vacant shops of a Saint-Etienne commercial street – deadline: 11th July 2016\n\nFurther Information and on-line application on http://biennale-design.com/saint-etienne/2017/inscription/

SUMMARY:European Project Human Cities_challenging the City Scale
DESCRIPTION:A 2014-18 project with 2 exhibition labs in 2016\nMilano: 12–17 April 2016\nBelgrad: October 2016 \n“Human Cities_Challenging the City Scale” is a European project\, exploring the way in which the inhabitants reinvent the constantly evolving contemporary city\, through experiments in the urban space. Cofunded by the Creative Europe/Culture program of European Union\, it is led by the Cité du design of Saint-Étienne for 4 years (2014–2018). \nAmongst the 12 European partners\, 4 are representing UNESCO Creative Cities of Design – Saint-Étienne (Cité du design-ESADSE)\, Bilbao (BEAZ)\, Graz (FH Joanneum) and Helsinki (Aalto University) – and of Literature with Ljubljana (Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia). Other partners are: Politecnico di Milano\, Milan ; Clear Village\, London ; Zamek Cieszyn ; Design Week Belgrade; Pro Materia\, Brussels ; Association of Estonian designers\, Tallinn [EST] ; CultureLab\, Brussels. \nCities are growing fast while the world is changing in a spectacular way\, and we have to face up to this new paradigm. The model of the traditional city\, with a centre and a surrounding area\, is disappearing\, to be replaced by a world of networks\, connections and multipolarity. How can we generate a vibrant city adapted to these new ways of life? We believe that the keys to success for towns and cities are in their human values\, shared creativity and design experimentation. \nIn 2016\, to answer these challenges and share it with creative communities\, urban planners and activists\, the partners of the program will \n\npublish a state of the art composed of 85 case studies\nlead experimentations in 10 cities\norganize Masterclasses in Milan (January-April 2016) and Bilbao (May 2016)\nrealize an exhibition-laboratory of the project with prototypes to be tested by the public and inhabitants\n\nThis exhibition will travel around the main European design events. In 2016\, it will be presented in Milan design week (12th-17th May 2016) and Belgrade Design Week (October 2016). A digital catalogue developed by FH Joanneum Graz is already set up to follow and share the exhibition. (free app available in Google and Apple stores under the name “HUMAN CITIES CATALOGUE”). \nInformation: www.humancities.eu \n

SUMMARY:Typo Berlin
DESCRIPTION:Designers stage dialogues. Whether it be the dialogue between app and user\, between website and visitor\, between a car and its driver\, or between a brand and its customers. Designers use technical and analytical tools to make communication as easy and emotional as possible. \n\n\n\nTYPO Berlin 2016 “Beyond Design” is dedicated to the mental tool called designing. It’s not about the well-worn narrative forms of graphic design that are readily available on every street corner. And it’s not about flash in the pan sensations. It’s about a strategy of responsible design. It’s about the design of the future. And about thinking about thought. It’s about what our brain was made for – networking\, language\, learning\, interaction. \nMore information here http://typotalks.com/berlin/?icl-en.

SUMMARY:Exhibition "Nothing Stops Detroit"
DESCRIPTION:The manifold exhibition ‘Nothing stops Detroit’ was planned by three students of the FH master degree program Exhibition Design\, namely Patricia Wess\, Janine Hugsam and Eva Stern. It shows a polarizing and pulsating design metropolis\, the former automotive city Detroit that since December 2015 has been the very first UNESCO City of Design in the US and currently counts almost 700\,000 residents. Since the downfall of the automotive industry\, the number of inhabitants has decreased from three million people by more than three quarters. Especially wealthy classes migrated and left empty plants\, buildings\, and streets. This has resulted in crime\, unemployment\, and poverty – which the city at the big lakes is still fighting with. \nThe core of the exhibition is the vacancy that is dominating the city. Due to the mass migration within the past decades\, milelong avenues and even whole quarters are almost deserted. The exhibition trio will illustrate different points of view with pictures. This includes for example the unequal proportion of pavements and streets – the result of the longstanding car boom – just like the expulsion of the homeless from the city. \nApart from the experiences of the students\, they will also show work pieces of Detroit-based creative professionals. They are energized and bring back life where it used to be extinct. Best-practice-examples are provided by Carl Nielbock. But not only Carl Nieboeck. The Graz students got to know other designers\, too – with the help of creative network lady Elli Schneider of dc3\, Detroit Creative Corridor Center\, which also developed the application for Detroit UNESCO City of Design. Furniture designers Ali Sandifer or the Russell Art Center/ Detroit\, are also presented in the exhibition\, among many others. \nOpening of the Exhibition: April 30\, 2016 | 16.00\nLocation: Jakoministraße 16\, 8010 Graz | First Floor\nMusic: Helmut R.

SUMMARY:Awarded Design from Croatia
DESCRIPTION:Croatia offers a young and energetic design scene. An exhibition at designHalle presents award-winning Croatian design from all disciplines as well as a documentary exhibition about work of the Croatian design legend Bogdan Budimirov. \nThe claim of the biennial exhibition from which the awarded works were taken is quite high\, as according to curator Marko Golub in the course of ‘Awarded Design from Croatia’ the ‘total of Croatian design production is to be covered’. Accordingly\, there is a wide variety of presented work\, that comprise visual communication and product design\, just as new media and fashion design\, but also interventions and installations in public space. Shortly: every creative field is to be seen and the portfolio of the objects ranges from highly commercial product design to non-profit oriented design in the context of research\, art and culture. The 18 works shown at the Designmonat Graz were selected from more than 200 that were originally shown at Zagreb’s Museum of Arts and Crafts in 2014 as part of The Exhibition of Croatian Design\, traditionally organized by the Croatian Design Association. \nA part of the exhibition (curated by Maroje Mrduljaš with B. Vidaković and M. Golub) is dedicated to Croatian architect and designer Bogdan Budimirov. Budimirov\, born in 1928\, started his career after the Second World War in socialist Yugoslavia and in the following six decades was working in different fields\, starting from architecture to furniture and product design. In 2014\, he received an award for lifetime achievements from Croatian Designers Association. Designmonat Graz show also features a documentary film on Budimirov directed by Ana Marija Habjan for Croatian Radiotelevision. \nAlready since 1999\, Croatian design has been shown in biennial exhibitions (‘Exhibitions of Croatian Design’) founded by the Croatian Designers Association\, among other events\, and in 2013 ‘Croatian Competitiveness Cluster of Creative and Cultural Industries’ (CCCCCI) was founded by the Croatian Ministry of Economy. It is an organization\, which – similar to Creative Industries Styria – aims at linking the single creative industries among each other and with the classic industries. This year\, the cluster also proclaims the ‘Month of Creative and Cultural Industries’ for the first time. It should help increasing the visibility of creativity and underlining the importance of creative output for the entire economy. \nOrganizers: Croatian Designers Association and the Croatian Cluster od Competitiveness of Creative and Cultural Industries\nExhibition setup: Oleg Šuran and Marko Golub\nGraphic Design: Oleg Šuran\nTranslation: Language Lab\nProduction manager: Ivana Nikolić Popović\nProduction assistants: Jelena Bračun\, Mirjana Jakušić\nChief Curator: Marko Golub\nCuratorial team for the Design by Bogdan Budimirov exhibition: Maroje Mrduljašwith Boris Vidaković and Marko Golub\nFilm director: Ana Marija Habjan \nExhibition Opening: April 29\, 2016 | 19.30\nDuration: April 30 to May 29\, 2016\nOpening hours: Tue to Sun | 12.00 – 19.00\nLocation: designHalle | Lazarettgürtel 62\, 8020 Graz

SUMMARY:Beautific Break - innovative universal Artwork made of Tape
DESCRIPTION:Tape Over is a Tape art collective from Berlin that will create an innovative universal artwork made of tape\, graffiti\, painting and light and in the form of a wave for Designmonat Graz. \nThe origin of the collective\, founded in 2011 as a duo and by now counting six members\, is to be found in the electro-subculture-scene of Berlin. This is why the electro-underground-clubs of the city were the first creative playground and important source of inspiration for the artists. Their Tape art style combines both the elements of Street art and Urban art and is characterized most of all by diversity and the love for detail\, which is expressed by organic and abstract shapes as well as restrained design. \nThree members of the collective are working on the Designmonat Graz project ‘Beautific Break’: Apart from LaMia (Lamia Michna) as art director\, tape artist Rob (Robert König) and the painter and graffiti artist Falkland (Falk Borchel) will stage a wave made of tape\, graffiti\, painting and light at designHalle. It will rise as a three-dimensional installation in space and as a two-dimensional artwork on the walls – a universal artwork composed of single artworks. The viewers will be able to experience a fascinated visual game of micro and macro perspectives. \nDuration: April 30 to May 29\, 2016\nLocation: designHalle | Lazarettgürtel 62\, 8020 Graz

SUMMARY:Selected - an Exhibition on Product and Interior Design
DESCRIPTION:A line-up of contemporary top design: the biggest design exhibition in the field of product and interior design\, collected under the title ‘Walk the Line’\, almost 50 top-class works from all over Europe as well as Japan and the US\, for one month at designHalle Graz. \nThe exhibition ‘SELECTED 2016’ presents interior design trends of 47 labels from 15 nations at designHalle/ Lazarettguertel\, covering an area of more than one thousand square meters. Among the 47 studios – most of them extensively discussed and highly awarded – there are for the first time also representatives from Japan and the USA. The linking element of this year is the straightness of creations that are very much against the grain. \nAmong the exhibits of the show there are objects – like the one of Berlin-based Sebastian Scherer of Studio Neo/Craft\, winner of the German Design Award 2016. His glass table Isom\, with a hexagonal top\, follows strict geometrical lines and delights with a fascinating optical illusion. Exceptional straightness is also an essential characteristic of Kristina Dam’s work. Both\, the plain shelves as well as the three-legged oak stool ‘Sculptural Chair’ of the Danish studio stand for plain and pure design art. Scandinavian simplicity at its best! There is also a broad range of luminaires that follows that trend. The spectacular ‘Pipe Lamps’ of well-known Austrian designer Thomas Feichtner shine due to their simple refinement. The luminaire ‘Alphabeta’ of the prestigious Italian label Studio Nichetto is just as remarkable. The colorful striking luminaires that are still minimalistic as far as style is concerned\, are contemporary interpretations of historic models from the 1950s. \nThe sofa concepts of Dutch label Tijs Gurten remind of styles such as Bauhaus and Memphis. Diverse geometric shapes are being joined and tied down with belts in order to form different sofa combinations. Another highlight of this year’s design exhibition: Sam Linders’ ‘Wobble-Up’. The objects of the Dutch designer waltz through the balancing act of being artful carpets and a seating furniture. There will also be an interesting shelf from East-Styria that impresses with simple geometric shapes; it is by co-creation of Proedl carpentry and designer Franz Polzhofer. \nThe curator of ‘SELECTED 2016’ is Alexa Holzer\, who – regarding the implementation of this year’s exhibition concept – cooperates with Georg Schnitzer and Peter Umgeher of Studio ‘Vandasye’. \ndesignWORKSHOP:
Mesh (up)on!\nMay 28\, 2016\, 13.00 – 18.00\nMany people know Mesh-Banner\, a material with a textural grid structure\, from advertisements on building facades. In this workshop the very stable mesh material is being upcycled into suspended luminaires. According to the motto ‘Build your own luminaire!’\, used banners (e.g. the Selected’15 banner) are processed into lamp models. Due to the printing\, every luminaire will be unique.\nContribution towards expenses: € 20. Limited number of participants.\nRegistrate at office@cis.at \ndesignSUPERMARKET\nMay 28 and 29\, 2016\nAfter the exhibition visitors have the opportunity to buy exhibits on the ground\, in a specially installed shop and in the course of a design auction. \nOpening: April 29\, 2016 | 19.30\n Dauer: April 30 to May 29\, 2016\nÖffnungszeiten: Tue to Sun | 12.00 – 19.00\nLocation: designHalle\, Lazarettgürtel 62\, 8020 Graz
