SUMMARY:Designmonat Graz 2017
DESCRIPTION:The month of May focused on Designmonat Graz (Month of Design). An extensive programme provided an insight into different creative disciplines and links with various designers. Events such as exhibitions\, workshops or lectures invite you to networking in the UNESCO City of Design Graz. \nFrom 29th April to 28th May\, Designmonat Graz 2017 is coordinated and organised by Creative In-dustries Styria (CIS) – already for the ninth time. There is a persistent strong interest in the event. \nA successful Designmonat Graz 2017 turned Graz into an internationally renowned hotspot of design. In May 91\,100 people visited 126 single events\, that were staged with 101 programme partners and 431 designers or labels. About 200 reports of Designmonat Graz in print\, TV and radio media\, as well as numerous national and international postings\, articles and blog posts on online portals and social media channels are a proof of the powerful international radiance of the festival. \nIn the course of Designmonat Graz 2017 the programme focuses on ‘Smart Design – Smart Production’ and deals with the age of digital networking and the multifarious tools of the Digital Revolution. Last but not least\, the protagonists of the creative industries – developers\, researchers\, programmers and designers – are the ones who created and enabled the new technological age. There are also plans for a ‘Smartness Conference’ on this subject. \nMajor events\nThe exhibition ‘SELECTED’ has a long tradition in terms of current interior design trends of different brands from diverse countries. What is new\, is not only the presented trends but also the location because this year the exhibition is staged in the Museum of Natural History at Joanneumsviertel.\nThe successful format ‘Design in the City’ continues to actively involve commercial companies of Graz in the programme of Designmonat. By doing so\, the participating companies launch design activities in addition to their everyday business. Further\, the fashion and design festival ‘assembly’ will once more be a part of Designmonat Graz. \nEstablished partners\nDesignmonat Graz will again include the production ‘Klanglicht’ of Bühnen Graz – this year it will take place on two days at selected locations. Schloss Hollenegg for Design invites to the exhibition MORPHOSIS around the topic ‘change\, evolution and transformation/metamorphosis’. The fans of Fesch’Markt may also look forward to the month of May. In cooperation with FH Joanneum\, the Department of Media & Design wants to familiarise us with the media design of the 1970s. The exhibition called ‘The Orange Age’ presents audio and TV devices as well as communication and office appliances\, provided by Heinz Fischer. In addition\, we plan lectures on the issue of smart communication in the future. \nNew accents\n‘Smart Urban Privacy’ is the name of a cooperation with Holzcluster Styria\, in the course of which we present objects\, that enable a temporary retreat at lively\, public locations. The smart city furniture for ‘digital natives’ or ‘digital immigrants’ rely of course on the smart material wood. Speaking of wood: within the regional focus on Raabtal\, we will stage the second design battle in May\, where teams of designers and specialists will cope with a task based on the topic ‘wood’. \n  \n\n\nYou are currently viewing a placeholder content from Default. SUMMARY:Singapore Design Week - SDW 2017
DESCRIPTION:Singapore Design Week (SDW) is marching forward and advancing ahead to the positive changes design can bring to our lives. In a drive towards deeper engagement with participants\, the fourth edition of SDW will celebrate all things design through more than 100 local and international events and programmes. SDW is organised by the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) and supported by key and fringe partners. It is from 3 to 12 March 2017 and is held at the National Design Centre and various locations across Singapore. Dsg will also collaborate with Time Inc. for the Innovation by Design Conference on 7 to 8 March 2017. \n“SDW is very different from the other design festivals\, in that our narrative of design has broadened over the years\, and this has been demonstrated through our programming. Singapore Design Week engages businesses and C-suite to help them understand how design can be used in business strategy. It showcases the importance of design in social innovation and national identity. At the same time\, we are excited to see the creative and craftsmanship of local designers grow from strength to strength every year\, and grateful that they see SDW as a key platform to showcase their work. We are especially thrilled to announce our new collaboration with global media company Time Inc. for the Innovation by Design Conference. The collaboration enhances Singapore as a global city for design\,” said Ms Agnes Kwek\, Executive Director\, DesignSingapore Council. \nInnovation by Design Conference is the feature conference of SDW. Through the collaboration with Time Inc and the company’s Fortune\, TIME and Wallpaper* brands\, the conference will feature the theme Design. Innovate. Transform. Discussion topics will include design and technology\, and how design can transform businesses and organisations\, and more. Attendees will include designers\, businesses\, C-suite executives and leaders from the public and private sectors\n“Time Inc. recognises Singapore’s position as a global design and business hub. The city has driven the strategic adoption of design among businesses and public agencies\,” said Norman Pearlstine\, Vice Chairman of Time Inc. “We are pleased to collaborate with the DesignSingapore Council on the Innovation by Design Conference. Participants can expect to hear unique insights from some of the world’s foremost business and design leaders that our global brands have convened.” \nKey Event Highlights \nSingaPlural\, the anchor event of SDW\, is from 7 to 12 March at the F1 Pit Building. Curated by award-winning design firm\, BLACK\, SingaPlural 2017 will present new perspectives with a refreshing take on design and how its influences our daily lives. The theme Stories – A New Perspective will feature installations\, including a display by international clothing brand\, UNIQLO. \nInternational Furniture Fair Singapore 2017 (IFFS)\, another key partner event of SDW\, is Asia’s premier sourcing and design-led furniture trade show presenting the latest design concepts and furniture range for the home\, as well as a virtual reality showcase. IFFS is co-located with the newly rebranded Nook Asia and held in conjunction with the 34th ASEAN Furniture Show. IFFS is from 9 to 12 March at the Singapore EXPO. \nSingapore + Wallpaper* Handmade Classics will mount a debut exhibition in Singapore. It is a specially curated showcase of original\, one-off pieces and unique design collaborations commissioned by Wallpaper* magazine and created by internationally renowned talents from past Handmade editions. The theme of the exhibition – MultipliCITY – acknowledges Singapore’s heritage of adaptability\, versatility\, diversity and invention. The exhibition is from 9 March to 11 June at Gillman Barracks. \nFrontliners in Action: architects and the people create a better living environment is a collective exhibition comprising Space to Imagine\, Room for Everyone commissioned by Dsg and curated by NUS; Limit/Limitless by MKPL; and Living Shelter by WY-TO and Pod Structures. The exhibitions were first mounted at the15th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (also known as the Venice Architecture Biennale) in 2016. Frontliners in Action demonstrates how architects must constantly be resourceful in surmounting space and resource constraints\, to find solutions that address “frontline” challenges. These challenges may be social\, environmental\, natural or even man-made. Increasingly\, citizens are also exerting their influence in enhancing the environment\, through active support and participation in ground-up initiatives. Architects and the people\, therefore\, are our extraordinary “frontliners”. This feature exhibition of SDW runs from 3 March to 8 April at the National Design Centre Atrium. \nDesign\, Make & Craft Fair will give everyone the opportunity to understand the creative process of making and to appreciate design in everyday life. The Fair is curated by Supermama and In the Wild’s Clara Yee\, with the theme Creating a Better World by Design. Visitors can attend hands-on workshops to design\, make and craft objects\, guided by designers\, makers and craftsmen from Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region. The Fair is from 4 to 5 March at The Plaza on Level 1 of the National Library Building. \nDesign Trails\, a perennial crowd-puller\, will return for the fourth time to take visitors on a Design Day Out in the City\, to inspired design spots in and around the city. Participants can get an insider’s peek into spaces and studios of the creative community. They can also learn to appreciate design through talks and demonstrations. The Trails are from 11 to 12 March. \nFor details of SDW events and programmes\, please refer to www.designsingapore.org/SDW

SUMMARY:Operæ - Independent Design Festival
DESCRIPTION:The seventh edition of Operæ gathers public and experts around projects linked by a focus on materials as well as on processes and craft technique. The event suggests a landscape inhabited by objects carriers of new values – whether economic\, social\, productive or relational – that arise from the intersection between craft skills and digital knowledge\, local practices and global needs\, specialized competences and collective narratives. \nThe event offers the opportunity to discover new products\, take note of the emerging phenomena\, get in touch with the actors of the design process as well as to stop and think about those aspects that design industry touches. Thanks to a program of meetings with personalities from the world of design\, economy and culture and a full calendar of workshops\, Operæ involves professionals as well as fans and curious. \nOver time Operæ has become an incubator of stories: it brings to the fore experimental\, innovative and multidisciplinary approaches and allows designers to sell their products and visitors to buy objects that are unique or produced in limited series. \nFor the 2016 edition Operæ is enriched by the presence of Annalisa Rosso\, independent design and architecture journalist\, in the role of curator. She identified the theme “Designing the future” as the framework through which to read the present time and the key which to look at the exhibition. \nThis year Operæ takes place in the first week of November\, from the 3rd to the 6th\, to coincide with Artissima Art Fair in the frame of the most important Italian event dedicated to contemporary arts “Contemporary Art Torino”. \nFor further information click here. \n  \n

SUMMARY:UNESCO’S Creative Cities’ Network to meet in Östersund\, Sweden
DESCRIPTION:  \nÖstersund has set a new standard for the annual meetings of UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The tenth annual meeting was less formal\, with more experiences and more creative discussions. \n– Östersund has taken the annual meeting to a new level. Never before in the history of the network has the delegates been offered such a complete experience of food\, culture\, meetings and exchanges of ideas with a local foundation. This is what the network is all about\, meeting\, exchanging knowledge and experiencing things together\, says Charles Landry\, keynote speaker and moderator at the annual meeting. \nMeetings between people\n250 delegates from 95 cities from all over the World have met\, have eaten local food and have agreed upon future strategies for cultural development of the member cities. The Swedish Minister for Culture and Democracy\, Alice Bah Kuhnke\, says that the meetings between people are decisive. \n– The annual meeting of UNESCO Creative Cities Network is important because it creates meeting places\, meetings between people everywhere with a focus on the future. We need to use all of our creativity\, sympathy and innovation to meet the challenges of the future around the World. I hope that all delegates will take their new ideas with them and implement them at home\, says Alice Bah Kuhnke\, the Swedish Minister for Culture and Democracy. \nA conference with experiences\nThe delegates and their accompaniers have eaten locally produced food\, have made a time trip at Jamtli regional museum\, have taken a ride in vintage cars\, have held workshops\, have seen the World design exhibition SZ-DAY\, have been offered high class lectures at Creative Business and much more. During the closing dinner at Thursday night the delegates were introduced to a powerful food and music experience with CrEATive Östersund. Both UNESCO delegates and local residents participated\, and chefs from all over the World participated in preparing the food. \n– We have shown that Östersund is a powerful force to be reckoned with when it comes to creativity\, culture and gastronomy. Everyone involved have made an excellent contribution to the arrangement of the conference! The goal now is to assume an even bigger role nationally within this field. We are the only Swedish city who is a member of the network\, and we have a lot of knowledge and experience to share\, says Dag Hartman\, the Project Manager for Region Jämtland Härjedalen for the UNESCO meeting. \nPassing on the torch\n \nDuring the annual meeting the delegates have decided upon a vision and an action plan for how culture and creativity will be used to create a sustainable future connecting urban and rural areas within the framework of the 2030 Sustainable Agenda for Sustainable Development. \n– The tenth annual meeting of UNESCOs Creative Cities Network has confirmed the importance of culture and creativity as enablers for a sustainable development in urban areas\, one month ahead of the UN conference on housing and sustainable urban development (Habitat III)\, which will be held in Quito next month\, says Irina Bokova\, Director-General of UNESCO. \nÖstersund is now passing the torch to the city of Enghien-les-Bains in France\, where the annual meeting of 2017 will be held. \n\n______________________________________ \nThe City of Östersund was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2010. Östersund was awarded this designation because of the city’s gastronomic entrepreneurs and the Jämtland Härjedalen region’s gastronomic culture and traditions\, which are rooted in locally and sustainably produced food. \nUNESCO Creative Cities Network 10th Annual Meeting was held September 14-16 in Östersund\, Sweden. Regional Gastronomy and Cultural programme offering events and activities highlighting the cultural profile of Östersund and the Region of Jämtland Härjedalen was on-going throughout the week.

SUMMARY:Exhibition «Mi-temps» at Cité du design
DESCRIPTION:The Cité du Design poroposes a special exhibition in the framework of the UEFA EURO 2016. Mi-Temps (Half-Time) reveals the universe of soccer\, its history and its future\, through its fundamental elements: balls\, field\, myths created around the players and the clamour of supporters\, which give it its force and power. The exhibition is a journey through objects\, artworks\, balls of collection\, videos and playful digital interaction\, to question this environment that seems immutable. But what it will be in some decades? Ball\, field\, supporters\, even players\, what will be their evolution? Numerous scenarios can be explored considering the innovations developed by researchers\, industrials\, and the the proposals coming from the imagination of worldwide creators. \nCurator: Noémie Bonnet Saint Georges \nSee more at: www.citedudesign.com \n \n \n

SUMMARY:3. Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne 2017
DESCRIPTION:Working Promesse\, \nShifting Work Paradigms – Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne 2017 \nThe Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne 2017 will present a state of the art and a great experiment\, a giant laboratory\, entitled Working Promesse focused on the shifting work paradigms. \nWork is one of the major preoccupations of our society. For us all\, work generates income and status; a promise of emancipation and prospect. Offshoot of the dream of a generalised full-employment\, work is at the heart of political and economic attentions\, but at the start of this 21st century\, it is changing and transforming. From digital labour to the share\, the world of work is being reshaped; it is inventing new organisations\, new services but also new throes and new hopes. Designers\, companies and the Saint-Etienne territory will gather in 2017 around this thematic in order to confront perspectives\, ideologies\, innovations and desires. And it is with the participation of the public that we will work towards this promise. \nFor this 10th edition of Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne\, UNESCO Creative Cities of Design will represented by the invitation of Detroit as Honour guest and a special programme linked to the network. \nSeveral calls for projects are linked to the Biennial: \n\nCall for projects for designers and companies – deadline: 11th May 2016\nCall for projects “Banc D’essai 2017” on urban furniture and objects prototypes to be tested in public space – deadline 4th July 2016\nCall for projects “Rue de la République du design” on the creative occupations of vacant shops of a Saint-Etienne commercial street – deadline: 11th July 2016\n\nFurther Information and on-line application on http://biennale-design.com/saint-etienne/2017/inscription/

SUMMARY:European Project Human Cities_challenging the City Scale
DESCRIPTION:A 2014-18 project with 2 exhibition labs in 2016\nMilano: 12–17 April 2016\nBelgrad: October 2016 \n“Human Cities_Challenging the City Scale” is a European project\, exploring the way in which the inhabitants reinvent the constantly evolving contemporary city\, through experiments in the urban space. Cofunded by the Creative Europe/Culture program of European Union\, it is led by the Cité du design of Saint-Étienne for 4 years (2014–2018). \nAmongst the 12 European partners\, 4 are representing UNESCO Creative Cities of Design – Saint-Étienne (Cité du design-ESADSE)\, Bilbao (BEAZ)\, Graz (FH Joanneum) and Helsinki (Aalto University) – and of Literature with Ljubljana (Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia). Other partners are: Politecnico di Milano\, Milan ; Clear Village\, London ; Zamek Cieszyn ; Design Week Belgrade; Pro Materia\, Brussels ; Association of Estonian designers\, Tallinn [EST] ; CultureLab\, Brussels. \nCities are growing fast while the world is changing in a spectacular way\, and we have to face up to this new paradigm. The model of the traditional city\, with a centre and a surrounding area\, is disappearing\, to be replaced by a world of networks\, connections and multipolarity. How can we generate a vibrant city adapted to these new ways of life? We believe that the keys to success for towns and cities are in their human values\, shared creativity and design experimentation. \nIn 2016\, to answer these challenges and share it with creative communities\, urban planners and activists\, the partners of the program will \n\npublish a state of the art composed of 85 case studies\nlead experimentations in 10 cities\norganize Masterclasses in Milan (January-April 2016) and Bilbao (May 2016)\nrealize an exhibition-laboratory of the project with prototypes to be tested by the public and inhabitants\n\nThis exhibition will travel around the main European design events. In 2016\, it will be presented in Milan design week (12th-17th May 2016) and Belgrade Design Week (October 2016). A digital catalogue developed by FH Joanneum Graz is already set up to follow and share the exhibition. (free app available in Google and Apple stores under the name “HUMAN CITIES CATALOGUE”). \nInformation: www.humancities.eu \n
