SUMMARY:Towards an anccessible City - A Month of Reflections on Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:The program ‘Turin. Towards an accessible city’\, comprises over 170 appointments – about sixty of which are dedicated to design – and involves more than 150 institutions\, both large and small\, a demonstration of the attention the cultural scene in Turin dedicates to the theme of accessibility\, a concept broadened to reflects on how to overcome social\, economic and cultural barriers. \nIn Turin\, throughout the month of October\, workshops will be held\, together with theatrical performances\, concerts\, film screenings and exhibitions. Many of the initiatives in the program are defined as “pathways”: “These are visits to museums\, archives\, libraries or tours of the territory\, in groups and accompanied by guides who will help participants grasp the essential aspects of an exhibition\, discover new ones\, experience them from different perspectives”\, Francesca Leon\, Municipal Councillor for Culture\, explains. “Some of these\, although designed for people with disabilities\, can be attended by anyone. In the European year dedicated to heritage we have chosen to work on the theme of universal accessibility related to structures\, services and cultural activities in the hope of stimulating cultural institutions to open up to new audiences”. \nSharing thoughts\, skills and experiences is the best way to overcome barriers that hinder cultural participation. It is with these intentions that the Municipal Administration has committed itself to involving institutions\, associations\, museums\, theatres\, libraries\, public and private cultural institutions. \nDesign of the City\nThroughout the month dedicated to heritage\, the city will host\, in different locations\, from the 12th to the 21st of October\, the second edition of “TORINO DESIGN OF THE CITY 2018”\, with about 60 appointments all revolving around heritage and universal accessibility related to structures\, services and cultural activities\, i.e. the ability of institutions to open up to new audiences and work on their relationship with their tangible and intangible cultural heritage. \nAn international event whose success last year has been an impulse to continue working to redesign Turin starting from the needs of people\, planning services that are the result of shared processes\, designed together with citizens and communities of the territory and enhancing diversity as an element of innovation. \nINTERNATIONAL FORUM ON ACCESSIBILITY\nThere will be moments of reflection\, dialogue and discussion with experts\, institutions\, associations and networks in various places of the city that will culminate in the INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON ACCESSIBILITY hosted in the Aula Magna of the University of Turin on October 16th and 17th. A two day event – with representatives from the cities of Copenhagen\, Montreal\, Graz\, Barcelona\, Bologna\, Carrara\, Fabriano\, Milan\, Parma\, Pesaro\, Rome and Alba – to pose the question on what the terms accessibility and inclusion mean in a metropolitan city\, which obstacles have been overcome and which still represent barriers to be eliminated. \nWe will listen to examples of good practices carried out by other cities\, we will take a look at the state of the art our city and\, with the help of experts and the participation of those interested in the topic\, the meeting will try to outline a roadmap and policies to be implemented so that culture – whether material or immaterial – and cultural heritage may become a common good\, open and enjoyable by all. \nIt will be the first public step along a road that leads to a deeper and more detailed attention to the issues of accessibility in its various articulations: economic\, cultural and social\, sensory\, cognitive\, physical and perceptive. If accessibility becomes a meaningful condition also for heritage\, identifying the obstacles that hinder its everyday and conscious fruition becomes a priority for us all. \n“The Forum on Accessibility represents a formidable opportunity for discussion\, a moment in which Turin opens its doors to innovation with a wide-ranging reflection on the future we want\, because culture is creativity without boundaries or barriers\,” says Francesca Leon. “In fact\, participation will be key to accessing the heritage of ideas”. \n  \nFurther Information\nImportant Dates\nDesign of the City: October 12–21\, 2018\nInternational Forum of Accessibility: October 16–17\, 2018 \nProgram\nDownload the international forum program here. \nPress Contact\nLuisa Cicero\nUfficio Stampa Giunta Comunale\npiazza Palazzo di Città 1\n10122 Torino\ntel. +39 011/011.21932\nmobile +39 346/23.56.935\nluisa.cicero@comune.torino.it\nwww.torinoclick.it \nEliana Bert\nUfficio Stampa Giunta Comunale\npiazza Palazzo di Città 1\n10122 Torino\ntel. +39 011/011.23677\nmobile +39 349/41.62.659\neliana.bert@comune.torino.it\nwww.torinoclick.it

SUMMARY:European Creative Industries Summit
DESCRIPTION:The 8th European Creative Industries Summit (ECIS 2018) will be held in Vienna on October 4\, 2018. BEYOND is the topic of the 8th European Creative Industries Summit 2018: Cross-Innovation as driver for Growth in the European Digital Single Market. \nInnovation is at the heart of the New European Agenda 2018-2021 and European Creative Industries Summit 2018 welcomes leading policy makers with Margarete Schramböck\, Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs\, Austria\, Tibor Navracsics\, EU Commissioner for Education\, Culture\, Youth and Sport and Christian Ehler\, MEP\, Co-Chair of Intergroup Cultural Creative Industries to focus the innovation potentials and policies for one of the largest and most successful industries in Europe – the Cultural Creative Industries with 12 million full-time jobs\, which amounts to 7.5 % of the EU’s work force\, and approx. EUR 509 billion in value added to GDP. \nIn 2016 the European Parliament recognized the value added of cultural creative industries in its report “on a coherent EU policy for cultural and creative industries”. Many projects and programs across Europe and in Horizon 2020 started to finance cross-innovation projects related to the creative industries. These first successes however also show that a piece-meal approach to creative industries is not sufficient to create societal and industrial relevant impact for the future of Europe. It is high time – for the best of Europe – to move from piloting projects to mainstreaming the benefits of creative industries as driver for cross-innovation for the economic and social benefit of Europe. \nIn January 2018 the European Innovation Council points out to „avoid a “one size fits all” and target market failures and EU added value with a focus on transformative\, breakthrough science leading to market-creating innovations and scaling-up highly innovative firms. These often take shape at the intersection between different technologies\, business sectors and scientific disciplines.“ \nNow BEYOND aims to do the next step to support cross-innovation policies and funding for the cultural creative industries in the next funding period. The conference focuses on growth areas of cross-innovation where creative industries will have an industrial impact and drives growth and well-being for the whole of Europe. Especially at the interface of creative industries and digital technologies\, both break-through and incremental innovations can effectively be supported. The range of possible applications is manyfold\, for instance in health\, mobility\, green economy and smart cities. \nExperts\nBEYOND welcomes experienced experts and decision makers for the creative industries such as Prof. Dieter Gorny\, Director european centre for creative industries\, Prof. Pier Luigi Sacco\, Special Adviser to the EU-Commission on Culture Heritage\, Ugo Bacchella\, President of Fitzcarraldo Fondazione\, Bart Ahsmann\, Director of the Dutch innovation agency\, CLICK.NL\, Eberhard Schrempf\, Director of CIS and Caroline Norbury MBE\, CEO of Creative England\, the largest public creative industries agency in Europe. \nBEYOND is not just another conference\, but part of the program of the Austrian EU-Presidency in collaboration with and with sponsoring by Kreativwirtschaft Austria (KAT) and the European Centre for Creative Economy (ecce). Its result will be documented and proposed to the European Council and European Commission to set up cross-innovation support policies for the cultural creative industries within Horizon Europe. \nRegistration\nRegistration for the conference will start in June. The full program will be published on ECBN webpage and regularly updated.\nECIS 2018 is organized by ECBN and supported by Kreativwirtschaft Austria (KAT)\, the European Centre for Creative Economy (ecce)\, and the Austrian Presidency of the EU 2018.

SUMMARY:Istanbul Design Biennial
DESCRIPTION:4th ISTANBUL DESIGN BIENNIAL – A SCHOOL OF SCHOOLS\n  \nIstanbul Design Biennial is organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV). Taking place since 2012\, Istanbul Design Biennial aims to bring together a diverse cross section of design ideas once every two years\, exploring a wide range of fields concerning design. Seeding ideas and fostering dialogue and intersections within the creative and academic community\, the biennial operates on a network of national and international collaborations with cultural agents\, institutions\, universities and companies. Using the city as a dynamic space for projects\, actions and interventions\, the biennial tackles global design problems\, brings the notion of design into scrutiny\, stimulates critical debate\, foregrounds underexplored or overlooked aspects of society and prompts further investigation into and exchange about emerging conditions of the world. In addition to its biennial exhibition and various activities\, Istanbul Design Biennial seeks to ensure a long\, deep and interdisciplinary conversation that will help rethink the question of design by multiplying the number of voices and assembling an inspirational design archive. Committed to design as a tool for understanding its complex role in today’s society\, the biennial as a progressive discussion platform is in permanent transformation. \nTheme\nAs a space for critical reflection on design established in a historically rich context\, the Istanbul Design Biennial offers the opportunity to question the very production and replication of design and its education. In 2018\, the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial builds on the legacy of previous editions\, in order to reinvent itself and become a productive process-orientated platform for education and design to research\, experiment and learn in and from the city and beyond. \nTitled A School of Schools\, the 4th Istanbul Design Biennial will stretch both the space and time of the traditional design event\, manifesting as a flexible year-long programme within which to respond to global acceleration\, generating alternative methodologies\, outputs and forms of design and education. A School of Schools manifests as a set of dynamic learning formats encouraging creative production\, sustainable collaboration\, and social connection. Exploring eight themes\, the learning environment is a context of empowerment\, reflection\, sharing and engagement\, providing reflexive responses to specific situations. \nVenues\nAKBANK ART | Istiklal St. No:8 34435 Beyoglu-Istanbul \nARTER | Istiklal St. No:211 34433 Beyoglu-Istanbul \nPERA MUSEUM | Meşrutiyet St. No:65 34430 Tepebasi-Beyoglu-Istanbul \nSALT GALATA | Bankalar St. 11 Karaköy 34420 Istanbul \nSTUDIO-X ISTANBUL | Meclis-i Mebusan St.35A 34427 Istanbul \nYAPI KREDI CULTURE ART | Istiklal St. No: 161 34433\, Beyoglu / Istanbul \nExperts\nDirector | Deniz Ova \nLocation

SUMMARY:Habitare 2018
DESCRIPTION:Habitare\, Finland’s largest interior decoration and design event\, will be held from 12 to 16 September 2018. Habitare 2017 was a huge success and attracted 56\,000 visitors and more than 400 companies. The Habitare 2018 theme of ROOTS will bring out and highlight the authenticity and personality of things. \n“In design\, authenticity and truthfulness mean that things can also be rough\, unfinished\, odd\, and random. Creativity triumphs over obeying the rules.”\n  \nIn a globalising world\, we have a growing appreciation for our own ROOTS and an interest in the origins of things and in other cultures. The Habitare exhibition design\, conceived around the theme\, will be by Mattila & Merz. The theme manifests itself in the exhibitor stands and the programme at Habitare\, to be held in September 2018. \nMulticulturalism is about communicating between different cultures\, but also about understanding that our own roots extend beyond national boundaries. When viewed from a global perspective\, we are\, in the end\, similar\, wherever our ROOTS are. \n“In design\, authenticity and truthfulness mean that things can also be rough\, unfinished\, odd\, and random. Creativity triumphs over obeying the rules\, and this is something that we encourage each Habitare participant to embrace”\, say the designers of the theme\, the trend expert Antti Rimminen from Urban View\, and the culture and fashion editor Mia Dillemuth. \nEstablishing values and acting in accordance with these values is emphasised in today’s increasingly unpredictable world. We are increasingly aware of the ethical implications of our purchasing decisions\, and we value authenticity and transparency. Companies increasingly seek to differentiate themselves from the competition through personal and human branding and values. \nInstead of stereotypes\, people seek more diverse ways of portraying themselves. Identity is no longer a permanent\, unchanging concept\, but a person or a company can incorporate several different facets. \nFurther Information\nRead more about Habitate here. \nSee a summary of 2017 here: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou are currently viewing a placeholder content from YouTube. SUMMARY:Helsinki Design Week 2018
DESCRIPTION:Helsinki Design Week is a multidisciplinary design festival that presents design from a number of fields as well as fashion\, architecture and urban culture. Held annually in September\, the festival programme contains around 250 events every year\, and boasted about 158\,000 visitors in 2016. Helsinki Design Week chairs World Design Weeks from 2017 to 2020. \nOne of the objectives of design is to question existing methods and to find new solutions. This creates order and usability\, not to mention good esthetics\, in our chaotic world. It’s not always easy to find new solutions. In addition to strong professional skills\, it takes vision and self-confidence. \nHelsinki Design Week is a cooperation platform for the design field and its audience. This platform is open and based on trust. We develop through interactive internationalization\, that is\, by working together as a network and trusting each other. It requires openness\, communication and cooperation skills. People are willing to share their thoughts and ideas only after they have gained trust in each other. \nThis year’s theme is TRUST!\nThe theme in 2018 for Helsinki Design Week is TRUST. The theme is topical because the sharing economy – the transition from individual ownership to collaborative consumption – is based on trust between humans. The transition of work\, increasing ways of telecommuting\, versatile networking and the digital service society are all built on mutual trust. \n  \n\n\n  \nHow has the design industry reacted to the change? How can we use design to enhance trust and transparency? What actions are needed to build trust? What new products\, services or events will be generated if designers bravely combine their forces? What does trust mean for design processes? \n\nAt Helsinki Design Week\, we trust in design’s ability to solve complex problems. We will showcase them next September throughout Helsinki in collaboration with designers and companies. If you want to participate\, and you want to have a (confidential) discussion with us\, please do contact Ms Moona Tikka\, Executive Producer (moona.tikka(at)helsinkidesignweek.com). \nThe largest design festival in the Nordics will be organized from 6 to 16 September 2018. An open call for the event will be launched in late winter 2018\, and the programme will be published in the summer of 2018. \n\nFor further information click here.

SUMMARY:Seoul Upcycling Plaza opens
DESCRIPTION:The Seoul Design Foundation(SDF) has been working on the biggest up-cycling hub in Korea\, the Seoul Upcycling Plaza(SUP). \nThe grand opening of SUP will be on September 5. \nThe spaces in SUP will be used in diverse ways including design shops\, exhibition hall\, co-working space\, lecture rooms\, studios and material bank. The resource recycling rate in Seoul is 66%\, that is the highest level in the world\, but it is simply “recycling.” \nDue to the increase of consumption\, people easily buy and dispose of things. However\, Seoul city felt the need of citizen’s consciousness about up-cycling to increase the resource value (high-value recycling)\, Upcycling is a new way of circulating the resources and protecting the environment by considering its value after it has lost its original use. Upcycling helps us to care about the environment and nature and also to think more when making things at first. \nThe SUP will increase awareness of the resource circulation through various programs such as citizen participating events\, up-cycling experience tour\, upcycling cultural festival and by doing that\, citizens and tourists can see\, experience and learn all about up-cycling. \n  \nⓒ Seoul Design Foundation \n\nFurther Information\nVisit the official website here www.seouldesign.or.kr \n

SUMMARY:A Modernist’s Guide to Kaunas
DESCRIPTION:“Modernist’s Guide” is the newest route in the “It’s Kaunastic” series. Kaunas dedicated both it and “Wallographer’s Notes” to the city as UNESCO Creative City of Design. Love modernist architecture? The city hopes you’ve already put Kaunas on your destination list! An English-language map of the most important buildings of the Epoque will be waiting upon your arrival. The city was awarded the title in 2015; the main reason for that was the modernist architecture of the interwar period which itself is currently included UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List. \nKaunas – which will become the European Capital of Culture in 2022 – is increasingly focusing on its history that usually hides in the plain sight. “Modernist’s Guide” will make the acquaintance easier and direct you to further contacts. \nModernist’s Guide\, Kaunas\, Photo: Kaunas IN\, 2018 \nFurther Information\nThe digital copy of Modernist’s Guide is available in English here. \nFor any further questions get in contact with Andrijana Filinaité\, Kaunas City Municipal Administration\, Chief specialist of Cultural Heritage Division\, via email

SUMMARY:The Last Master of Joseon
DESCRIPTION:The Last Master of Joseon: Jang Seung Eop Chihwaseon Special Exhibition\nThis exhibition features over 60 works by Jang Seung Eop\, a master artist of the Joseon Dynasty\, owned by the Gansong Art Museum. Known for his free-wheeling lifestyle\, Jang is renowned as the “last genius painter” of the Joseon Dynasty. \nThis exhibition aims to explore the origin of contemporary Korean painting. His paintings are the combined result of various factors beyond his artistic genius\, that is: his passion for artistic creation even amid the chaotic social environment of the Joseon Dynasty’s final years\, the fact that his thoughts and actions did not conform to the established mores of the time\, and his love of alcohol (which was so great that Jang often refused to paint while sober). To get a better idea of what Korea was like in Jang’s time\, visitors can view scenes from the movie Chihwaseon\, a biopic on Jang Seung Eop\, which will also help them gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for Jang’s paintings. \nFurther Information\nSee the official website here. \nPhoto Gallery\n\n \n \n \n \n SEOUL_The Last Master of Joseon exhibit © Seoul Design Foundation\n \n \n \n \n \n SEOUL_The Last Master of Joseon exhibit © Seoul Design Foundation\n \n \n \n \n \n SEOUL_The Last Master of Joseon exhibit © Seoul Design Foundation\n \n \n \n \n \n SEOUL_The Last Master of Joseon exhibit © Seoul Design Foundation\n \n \n \n \n \n SEOUL_The Last Master of Joseon exhibit © Seoul Design Foundation

DESCRIPTION:There’s no such word as “wallographer” you say? True\, but how else should we call the observer of street art\, graffiti\, neo-frescoes\, site-specific artwork and other traces of art that can be found outside museum or gallery walls? With a new release in the “It’s Kaunastic” series\, the city invites you to become the wallographers of Kaunas and to embark on a never-ending tour – by the time you reach the final point of your walk\, new detail will have emerged\, and you will definitely want to snap a picture. It is also likely that one of the artworks included in the guide will have run its course. That’s why the walls and streets of Kaunas (in addition to drawings\, the guide contains a few sculptures and other objects that are integral to the city) are remarkable – they never sleep\, they don’t complain\, demand or declare. They live.
Wallographer’s Notes is paired with Modernist’s Guide\, a map of the modernist architecture of Kaunas – a dedication to Kaunas UNESCO Creative City of Design. \nFurther Information\nThe digital copy is available in English hereWallographers-notes-EN-WEB2. \nFor any further questions get in contact with ANDRIJANA FILINAITĖ\,Kaunas City Municipal Administration\, Chief specialist of Cultural Heritage Division\, via email \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n Wallographer’s Notes (map)\, Photo: Kaunas IN\, 2018\n \n \n \n \n \n Wallographer’s Notes\, Photo: Kaunas IN\, 2018\n \n \n\n

SUMMARY:PLAY Kortrijk
DESCRIPTION:PLAY is a headstrong city festival from 23 June to 11 November 2018\, that will take over the centre of Kortrijk with contemporary works of art. \nYou can immerse yourself in the unique world of national and international visual art at diverse indoor and outdoor locations in the city. During PLAY\, the city not only serves as a canvas; bit by bitt he festival simultaneously dissects our relationship with `play`. How does play influence our social behaviour? How does `play`reflect the evolution of our society? How important is play for our motor and cognitive development? \nKortrijk is a playground and home for creative talent and is also a quality player in the Belgian cultural and arts landscape. A city with a generous dose of daring\, sense of creative entrepreneurship and above all\, the (play)room to experiment. \nKORTRIJK\, PLAYGROUND FOR CREATIVE TALENT \nKortrijk is growing\, flourishing and above all\, does not stand still. And it is precisely this continuous urban metamorphosis that makes the West Flanders city the dream décor for PLAY. Not only a breeding ground for regional\, national and international talent\, but also a springboard that offers opportunities. This unexpected creative melting pot carefully connects different disciplines such as art\, design\, education and entrepreneurship. In November 2017\, Kortrijk became a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network\, a collection of 180 world cities that use creativity as a lever for sustainable development. A year earlier\, Kortrijk was officially named a child and youth-friendly city. In order to obtain this label\, the city – together with local young people – completed an intensive participatory process that examined what child and youth-friendly Kortrijk needed. What’s more Kortrijk was chosen as European City of Sport 2018\, thanks to the impressive range of sports it offers\, the quality sports events it hosts and its large number of sports clubs. Kortrijk is a playground and home for creative talent and is also a quality player in the Belgian cultural and arts landscape. A city with a generous dose of daring\, sense of creative entrepreneurship and above all\, the (play)room to experiment. \nREDISCOVER YOUR CITY \nPLAY consists of more than 40 indoor and outdoor installations by national and international artists interested in the interactive aspect of art and the relationship between an artwork and the observer\, the space and urban developments. The city festival offers unique artistic experiences that give visitors the opportunity to reflect on their personal actions and to view human behaviour in a different light. The artists use humour and play to focus our attention on diverse social codes and subjective ideas about human behaviour. In recent years\, the boundary between art and urban planning has blurred: both contribute to a positive transformation of the public space using play\, involvement and citizens’ participation. PLAY encourages visitors to discover\, or rediscover\, Kortrijk and demonstrates how the urban environment plays a leading role in our daily lives. \nINTERACTIVE ART ROUTE \nPLAY consists of an art route of installations with a powerful visual impact\, many of which are also interactive. The aim is for the exhibition visitor to cast off his/her role of passive spectator and to share in an intense experience as a co-actor/ co-author/co-pilot. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of documentary films that examine the ‘play’ phenomenon from a humanist and scientific perspective. \nFurther information\nGet in contact here\nPress contact here \nINFO POINTS\nTexture\, Noordstraat 28\, 8500 Kortrijk\n1302\, Begijnhof\, 8500 Kortrijk\nMuziekcentrum Track\, Conservatoriumplein\, 8500 Kortrijk \nPhoto Gallery\n\n \n \n \n \n Modified Soccer Bench\, Photo: Jeppe Hein\n \n \n \n \n \n I am prepared for you\, Photo: Markus Sixay\n \n \n \n \n \n When all the world is hopeless jumble\n \n \n \n \n \n Soccer Pitch \n \n \n \n \n \n Soccer Pitch \n \n \n \n \n \n Soccer Pitch

DESCRIPTION:On June 13\, Bilbao International Art & Fashion (BIAAF) will unveil the exhibition of emerging fashion of the Sixth Edition of BIAAF\, the reference contest of art and fashion in Europe. The exhibition displays the work of the 31 finalists of the Sixth Edition of the international competition that takes place every two years. \nIn this edition BIAAF (Bilbao International Art & Fashion) has broken all possible records and has become an international reference for emerging design with 1.673 enrolled participants\, coming from 90 different countries. All of them have presented creations related to the world of art. \nA large representation of young talent will attend the inauguration\, with special delegations from the following international schools: Shenkar (Israel)\, Kyoto Seika University (Japan)\, Central Saint Martins\, London College of Fashion y Royal College of Arts (United Kingdom)\, Sask (Belgium) e IED Barcelona\, among others. \n3 Winners\nDuring the inauguration the three winning designers will receive their awards: \n1. Gabriela Grajales (Colombia)\, best outfit designer \nThis collection takes as its model the structural principles of the Islamic mosaic and the transforming character of a mythological sea creature\, obtaining geometrical and colourful textures that allow the readaptation of toxic material. The designs are made using recycled Nespresso coffee capsules. \n2. Jimmy Junichi (United Kingdom)\, best accessory designer \nThis collection of “Reconstruction” is intended to redesign classic shoes with new construction methods but keeping traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by the sculptures of artists like Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore\, and car design such as Mercedes Benz sculpture experiments and Bugatti type 57\, the shoes are made using vegetable tanned baby calf\, polyethylene modelling board\, epoxy pate\, original patent lacquer and leather hardener. \n3. Eneko Iturbe (Basque Country)\, special category\, best Basque designer \nInspired by the pictorial works of Spanish artist Vaquero Palacios\, Terre is a collection of classical lines with a traditional touch\, although it’ s a contemporary work. It gathers not only the essence of its concept and inspiration\, but also the emotions and feelings the designer went through while developing this work. Traditional wools used in classical tailoring\, two-tone iridiscent rayon linings\, jaquard designs as well as shirtmaker’s silk in printed and bold colours compose the fabric range. \nExhibition\nThe exhibition is designed by Zorrozua y Asociados\, and will be held at Azkuna Zentroa. \nThe contest is nowadays the flagship of a global platform for emerging talents of fashion design\, and it aspires to create an innovative breeding ground for creative fashion entrepreneurs in Bilbao. SUMMARY:LAB.2030 Design Action.bdg
DESCRIPTION:LAB.2030 | Design Action.bdg: Fostering the Creation of Innovative Ideas for Social Development\n  \n\nThe Bandung Creative City Forum (BCCF) is a collaborative-hub facilitating the exchange of creative ideas and knowledge\, aimed at encouraging entrepreneurial initiatives and promoting the creative sector within Bandung. This independent group of volunteers is a catalyst for generating low-cost\, effective improvements and urban solutions for local issues. \nWorkshop Design.Action.bdg\nFor the last 5 years\, the BCCF has supported and organised a variety of social-advancement initiatives\, working with residents to develop their areas in order to generate economic growth and improved communal facilities. Due to the success of the BCCF approach to social and environmental change\, the team now holds an annual workshop called Design Action.bdg. This collaborative opportunity allows creative minds to generate innovative ways to solve issues within the municipality. In consolidation with ‘design thinking’ the BCCF believes in action – Design Action. Their goal is to use ideas to create prototypes for potential solutions. \nFunded by the city and other private sponsorships\, the event gains national and international interest\, and has successfully inspired other cities to set up similar initiatives. As well as addressing urban issues\, the event offers a stage for social equality due to the large number of female and young participants. The workshop has successfully encouraged local government to make improvements to social services and facilities\, as well as focus their attention on the need for environmental sustainability measures.
