SUMMARY:Exhibition Saint-Étienne meets China
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to close ties developed during the Biennale 2019\, of which China was guest of honor\, the Cité du design goes to China with an exhibition. \nAt the Industrial Design World Expo\, held in Shunde\, Saint-Étienne meets China will present the Cité du design activities and the Biennale International Design Saint-Étienne. \nMoreover\, two exhibitions of the last edition of the Biennale will be featured. \n– Unfoldings explains how design becomes an intermediary between technology and users. It highlights the importance of the Biennale in international relations. Also\, with this exhibition we can show\, in China\, French firms’ expertise and know-how. \nThis exhibition will travel to Wuhan for the Design Biennale\, from November 1st to 10th. \nGuangdong Design World Expo 2019 \n

SUMMARY:Exhibition « le jour suivant » (the day after )
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition «le jour suivant» (the day after) presenting the works of students graduated in June 2019 is a key moment for the ESADSE. We decided to plan it as an opening event for this year\, as an objective for the artists and designers in the making. Selected pieces from Art and Design diplomas give an overview of the involvement shown by the students in their Master completion year and in their whole curriculum. “The day after” highlights the plurality of artists and designers from various mentions (Art ; Space Art & Design ; Object Design ; media Design)\, demonstrate the emulation coming from the interaction between art and design\, and show the whole range of their practices. The true richness of the ESADSE stands her. \nwww.citedudesign.com \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n © citedudesign\n \n \n \n \n \n François-Xavier Antolini – Design mention Objet – PALIER-03 © Sandrine Binoux\n \n \n \n \n \n Alice Petit-Bonneville – option Art – Des plaisirs du texte © Sandrine Binoux

SUMMARY:Kaunas Architecture Festival (KAFe)
DESCRIPTION:Kaunas Architecture Festival (KAFe) is an international project\, taking place in Kaunas every 3 years and inviting townspeople\, architectural professionals and guests of the town to take part in an almost 2 month long experiment promoting architecture\, creativity and education\, which emphasizes the impact that architecture has on our lives\, its importance to creation of public well-being and harmonious environment. Reaction to the projects being implemented in Vilnius and Kaunas (Missionary gardens\, development of St. Jacob’s hospital\, Reconstruction of Vienybės Square\, renovation of Ąžuolynas park\, etc.) shows that the public is increasingly interested and willing to participate in urban development processes\, therefore public events\, that analyse architectural issues\, are very much needed and receive a lot of attention. \nKAFe festivals\, which took place in 2013 and 2016\, have received a lot of attention and appreciation not only from professionals\, but also from the public\, they had over 50 different events related to architecture and more than 10 publications published. \n  \nPhoto: KAFe 2016 \nTOPIC 2019\nThe topic of this Kaunas Architecture Festival is Landmark Architecture – creating or destroying city’s identity? \nMany cities around the world are competing to have landmark buildings\, created by world-renowned architects\, despite the fact that such objects are often built without taking into account the existing urban structure or by strongly altering the historical environment. Doubts are often expressed in public debates whether such buildings truly create the identity and uniqueness of the city\, or perhaps the opposite – it is destroyed. Are buildings of impressive shapes and structure\, which are large\, but dissonant with the environment\, what today’s society awaits and expects from architects and their clients? Can landmark architecture be something other than glass towers\, oriented only to international names\, tourists and business interests? Perhaps exclusive architecture should emphasize the uniqueness of the location and serve as the true city sign\, at the same time harmoniously complementing the existing urban structures. The focus of KAFe 2019 will particularly be on search and development of objects of different landmark architecture and urban expression. \n  \nPhoto: KAFe 2016 \nFurther Information:\nSee the official website here http://kafe.lt/2019/en/\nGet in contact via email – info@kafe.lt \nOpen Call: Landmark architecture – creating or destroying city’s identity? International exhibition-competition of final projects of architecture students. \nKaunas architecture festival KAFe2019 invites to participate in the international exhibition-competition of final projects of university architecture students – of both bachelor and master studies – on the topics of the central part of Kaunas town. The topic of this year’s KAFe2019 – Landmark architecture – creating or destroying a city’s identity? – therefore the development of the central part of town and the role of “landmark” buildings in this process is at the focus of the competition topics suggested for consideration of Lithuanian and foreign architecture universities. \nFor more Information go the website http://kafe.lt/2019/en/projektai/study-kafe/ \nHere are some impressions about KAFe 2016!\n\n\nYou are currently viewing a placeholder content from Default. SUMMARY:12th Kaunas Biennial “AFTER LEAVING | BEFORE ARRIVING”
DESCRIPTION:Unexpected. Challenge. Moving forward.\n  \nFor its 12th edition\, the Kaunas Biennial explores the journey as a metaphor for the burgeoning cultural identity of a city with a complex past. Over the course of recent history\, Kaunas has been caught in a state of political flux\, transitioning from one regime to the next. Even during its prosperous twenty-year phase as capital city after the Polish annexation of Vilnius between 1919 and 1940 Kaunas remained in waiting\, set to regain its status as second city after the liberation of the former capital. What followed\, however\, was occupation by the Soviet Union\, then Nazi Germany\, reoccupation by the Soviets\, and finally the declaration of Lithuanian independence in 1990 with the country becoming a member state of the European Union in 2004. This chain of events restored not only Lithuanian national sovereignty but also the status of Kaunas as second city with the stubborn moniker “temporary capital”. This perpetual change has shrouded the city in a collective amnesia fueled by discrepant lived experiences across the different generations. Now\, looking forward to its tenure as European Capital of Culture in 2022\, Kaunas seeks to carve out a unified path to the future on its own terms\, mythologizing its troubled past in order to write new narratives for the present. \nAFTER LEAVING | BEFORE ARRIVING takes the story of Kaunas as its point of departure to examine broader notions of passage and transition in the context of individual experience and intergenerational structures. The exhibition reflects upon how the feeling of disorientation underlying contemporary existence globally intertwines with the specific sociopolitical realities of nation-building in the New East\, where alternative European alliances are unfurling from the knots of past regimes. Alongside these historical and geopolitical narratives\, the exhibition looks to more poetic strategies of depicting or perhaps overcoming the condition of precarity\, with the absurd\, the mystical\, and the humorous serving as key tools for navigating uncertain terrain. AFTER LEAVING | BEFORE ARRIVING understands these liminal moments not just as an occasion for contemplation\, anticipation\, and doubt\, but also as a call to action–both individual and collective – in the search for one’s place within the universe. \n  \nPhoto: KAFe \nCurators\nThe team of curators to embark on this journey includes Elisabeth Del Prete (Italy / United Kingdom)\, Daniel Milnes (United Kingdom / Germany)\, Lýdia Pribišová (Slovakia)\, Neringa Stoškutė (Lithuania) and Alessandra Troncone (Italy)\, consulting curator Lewis Biggs (United Kingdom)\, director Kotryna Žemaitytė. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou are currently viewing a placeholder content from YouTube. SUMMARY:Assembly
DESCRIPTION:We’re looking forward to assembly 2019! „assembly“\, as in “multitude“ unites versatile\, up-to-date approaches to design in festival form. Design is much more than a mere but useful aid for successful sales. \n“Design is rather a means to express our identity and exceed limits: transgression takes place from object to (digital) space\, from artifact to the love of life\, from textile creation to graphic art. assembly considers itself not a mere product fair\, but rather a „temporary autonomous zone“. One of the main objectives of this initiative is to encourage the culture of collaboration with other sectors\, such as business\, science or politics. \n  \n  \nPhoto: Martynas Plepys \nTopic 2019: Human Factor\nThis year\, the umbrella topic of the Forum will be the “Human Factor”. It helps to raise questions such as: \n\nDo we consider the human factor before engaging into creative or business practices?\nHow to leave one’s “social bubble” and truly understand people who are different from us?\n\nMain Themes\nThe Forum’s speeches\, sessions and even provocations will cover the following topics: \n\nthe importance of collaboration between art and business\,\nthe audience engagement and the social entrepreneurship.\n\nTogether with the audience\, we will question and rethink conventional practices or understandings; with the help from musicians and intuition\, we will elaborate our strategies. In the part dedicated to the cultural diplomacy\, we are going to look for answers to such questions as: What seems to be causing the deepening divide between society and institutions as well as what are the social and political uncertainties and disputes currently arising in Europe? We promise you a deeper understanding of the European cultural dimension. \n  \nPhoto: Martynas Plepys \nSocializing Part\nOn May 23\, after an intensive day of sharing and gaining knowledge you will have an opportunity to join one of the most interesting events in Kaunas city – an open-air community dinner that turns the central pedestrian street – Laisves avenue – into the longest and most charming dinner table. \nOn May 24\, we invite you to join a British humour stand-up comedy show with Geoffrey Brown “The Good\, the Bad and the Brexit“. \nTickets\nA free ticket to the European Capital of Culture Forum can be reserved at forumas.kaunas2022.eu \nDownload the invitation here (Invitation\, PDF). \n  \nPhoto: Martynas Plepys \nFurther Information:\nSee the official website here. \nDownload the press release here. \nDownload the final report here – ECoC Forum_2019 article. \nContact Details:\nAna Čižauskienė\, Head of International Relations and Programming at “Kaunas 2022”\nContact per email – ana@kaunas2022.eu \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n 2019 Photo: ECOC Forum Kaunas 2019\n \n \n \n \n \n 2019 Photo: ECOC Forum Kaunas 2019\n \n \n \n \n \n 2018 Photo: Martynas Plepys\n \n \n \n \n \n 2018 Photo: Martynas Plepys\n \n \n \n \n \n 2018 Photo: Martynas Plepys\n \n \n \n \n \n 2018 Photo: Martynas Plepys\n \n \n\n  \nWhat happened at the European Capital of Culture Forum 2019? SUMMARY:Bilbao Art District
DESCRIPTION:Bilbao Art District is a public-private initiative with the objective of promoting the activity carried out from the city’s artistic and cultural fabric as a strategic element in its development and projection towards the future. \nIt aims to be a project that is inspiring\, open\, inclusive and which unlocks potential for the city as a whole\, considering Bilbao as a unique artistic district and the entire metropolis as a creative ecosystem. Without breaking from promoting the multiplicity of its artistic facilities and institutions\, it aspires to transcend the nature of a setting where art is consumed to become a stakeholder that drives recognition of the new role of artistic creation in contemporary society through its social and cultural value\, its innovating potential\, and its capacity for generating development\, thought\, wealth and employment. \nIt works with the sector throughout the year to achieve the aforementioned objectives\, but in May and October\, specifically\, it develops a special programme for the public and the sector as a whole in the city. \nThis initiative arose in 2013 driven and coordinated by Bilbao Ekintza\, municipal company of Bilbao City Council\, in which the Provincial Council of Biscay and the rest of the stakeholders of the visual arts in the city participate and collaborate\, such as museums\, galleries\, production spaces\, and so on. \n\nFurther information\nSee the official website here. \nContact Details\nFor any questions get in contact per email – bilbaoartdistrict@gmail.com
