SUMMARY:WONDER KORTRIJK CREATIVITY FESTIVAL
DESCRIPTION:KORTRTIJK PRESENTS AN IMPRESSIVE CREATIVE AUTUMN PROGRAMME \nThe fact that a pandemic brought down the Biennale INTERIEUR and the city programme was an impulse for the creative scene in Kortrijk to join forces more intensively than ever. The result is a brand new city festival WONDER. Creativity\, design\, art\, music and above all: amazement and optimism are at the heart of an inspiring route for young and old for a month. Completely coronaproof\, of course. \nFrom 15 October to 15 November\, the creative festival for amazement WONDER occupies the city centre of Kortrijk. At 12 different locations in the city\, the doors will open for young design talent\, architecture\, art installations\, concerts\, workshops and innovative projects in a programme in which every lover of creativity – in the broadest sense of the word – can find his or her liking. \nA selection of the richly filled programme \nDesignregio Kortrijk is showing the Belgian designers of tomorrow in the exhibition ‘We Are the Next Generation’. Together with the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend\, the Biennale Interieur has chosen a new Designer of the Year for the fifteenth time in a row. HOWEST puts fifteen years of Industrial Product Design in the spotlight in its new campus The Penta\, designed by the German architect Thomas Rau.  In the angular\, state-of-the-art building “The Level”\, the internationally renowned Digital Arts and Entertainment programme presents a presentation of its 15th anniversary. \nThe Circular Travelling Experience Lab in Hangar K is an itinerant paper-based lab that shows the many possibilities of honeycomb cardboard as an eco-material in all its variations and fields of application. \nLeiedal comes with an impressive retrospective exhibition in the Budafabriek about 20 years of architecture in public commission. \nWilde Westen will perform special concerts at various locations\, including sounding names such as An Pierlé and Sohnarr. The impressive Sohnarr Sjel stands in the garden of Broelkaai 6. The museum Texture lets you discover the work of the internationally renowned textile artist Klaas Rommelaere. \nArts centre BUDA and Vormingplus present a Kortrijk version of Ecopolis for those committed to a sustainable future. Budascoop provides an adapted children’s programme. \nMore:\nDiscover the selected retailers from the Commerce design project and visit the city’s creative hotspots with the new version of the Kortrijk Creative City Tour. \nFrom the Budafabriek and the Interieurhuis to BK6 and the lowered Leieboorden. WONDER runs for a month at various locations in the city centre of Kortrijk. Most of them can be visited free of charge\, workshops will be on registration. \n  \n\nCONTACT \nAll info and practical details available on \nwww.wonderkortrijk.be \n

SUMMARY:Design Transfer // Hollenegger Design Talks 2020
DESCRIPTION:The Hollenegger Design Talks will again set the stage for encounters between design and classic industries and present best practice examples in a series of nine design talks at Schloss Hollenegg on 22 and 23 September 2020. \nCreativity is the raw material of innovation. This has always been true\, and not just in times of crisis. What a crisis can strengthen\, however is our perception of good design. A key role within this process is played by design itself. More than just a method\, “Design Thinking” is\, in fact\, an attitude\, a mindset. It means incorporating design as a creative strategy throughout the entire process of developing products or services. This means that design gains systemic importance wherever success or failure depend on the right idea\, the right implementation and the right interaction of processes and products. No matter what the stage of development of a service or a product is at a given moment: design can and will make the decisive difference. Good design\, poor design – this is no longer a question of taste! \nAt the Hollenegger Design Talks 2020\, nine teams of designers and business people will use best-practice examples to illustrate how design contributed to the success of their product; they will showcase the development process and demonstrate how they were able to benefit from design – before\, during and after the crisis. The presentations range from modular office furniture of the future that can be swiftly adapted as needed to the design concept for particularly user-friendly signposting that helps skiing aficionados navigate ski runs by means of colour coding and pictographs. Another talk presents the positive outcome for mountain bikers when Nature’s ingenuity and human creativity join forces. Design is as versatile as the solutions it creates. \n\nFURTHER INFORMATION \nclick here

SUMMARY:Helsinki Design Week celebrates design in September - The main venue: the Olympic Stadium
DESCRIPTION:The 16th annual Helsinki Design Week will be held on 3–13 September 2020. The festival events will again spread throughout the city: from museums to markets\, from seminar halls to secret shops\, from studios to showrooms and from offline to online events and encounters. \nHelsinki Design Week is a series of responsibly organized events of varying sizes. It is not a festival at one single venue holding thousands of visitors. With regards to possible restrictions on venues or visitors due to the international health crisis\, the festival has the means and opportunity to multiply into smaller events or use new digital methods of exhibiting content. \nHelsinki Design Week’s statement for 2020 is Commitment Matters – a theme that raises questions regarding the meaning and value of designing. The phrase is a stimulus for thought\, and the theme is meant to be used as a tool for everyone taking part in the festival: the event organizers\, the exhibitors\, the seminar speakers and the visitors. As main partner of the festival the City of Helsinki is supporting the safe and responsible organization of the festival. \nThe festival visuals celebrate the legendary Helsinki Olympic Stadium\, combining its functionalistic architecture with vivid and energetic colours from the athletic world. Historic photos from the 1940s will highlight the design and history of the restored monument. \nThe main venue: the Olympic Stadium\nThe main venue of Helsinki Design Week will be the Olympic Stadium. With its large and airy spaces\, it is a perfect spot for safe encounters. The stadium is open on 11–13 September for guided tours and for Children’s Design Weekend. \nThe Stadium is also home to the main exhibition\, a series of installations on design\, architecture and fashion\, presenting interesting design from unique pieces to large scale set ups. A review of top young designers is not to be missed. \nThe Olympic Stadium will also host an event that may well become the biggest PechaKucha Night ever held. The evening of September 12 is reserved for 10 presentations\, each less than 7 minutes long. The idea of PechaKucha\, Japanese for “chit chat”\, is simple: 20 slides and 20 seconds of commentary on a theme chosen by the presentator. The guest speakers will be published in early August. \nDesign sale and guided tours\nThe most popular autumn design sale\, the Design Market\, will open Helsinki Design Week on 3–5 September 2020. The event will be held online through a site listing vendors and offers in webshops and city boutiques. The Design Market offers sample sales and good bargains from notable brands. All of the vendors are committed to environmentally sound design and products. \nOpen door events on 9-10 September offer guided tours to meet local designers. Open Studios is an event open to all. It takes us to meet local architects\, graphic designers and creative minds at their own studios. Open Showrooms is meant for professional audiences and members of the media. Guided tours offer visits to the world of production\, manufacture and import. \nMinigalleries on screens\nFor two weeks\, Helsinki Design Week will take over more than 20 advertising screens in downtown Helsinki. The Open Screens campaign allows new encounters between design and Helsinkians. \nThe full programme of Helsinki Design Week and Children’s Design Week will be released in early August 2020. \nThe main partner of the event is the City of Helsinki. The event is supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture. \nHelsinki Design Week\, 3 – 13 September\, 2020.  \nHelsinki Design Week has been organized annually every September since 2005. With a festival programme of around 250 events every year\, it is the largest design festival in the Nordic countries. Helsinki Design Week is produced by Luovi Productions Ltd\, founded in 1995 by Kari Korkman.  \n  \n\nFURTHER INFORMATION  \nClick –> here

SUMMARY:Rebooting“ the World: A UNESCO Creative Cities Debate on the Role of Design
DESCRIPTION:The UNESCO Creative Cities of Design network\, which unites 40 cities around the globe\, is organizing an open virtual discussion on “The power of design in response to the global crisis and rebooting the world”. In a discussion broadcasted from Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 office\, on July 14th\, cities will share current issues and COVID-19 inspired emergency design practices and experiences that inspire people around the world. \nWe face design at every step without even thinking about it: at home\, at work\, in public spaces. Fused\, they create and shape our perception of what the city and city life should look like. Form and content affect everything: economics\, politics\, and culture. The experience of quarantine with endless limitations has provoked the need for urgent and creative solutions that not only help us to adapt to this new reality\, but feel healthier and happier. In virtuality\, connectivity with the community\, no matter its size\, has become an essential criterion in design: in a world struck by a pandemic\, we must reconsider our priorities. What is the significance and function of design today? How does a discipline often associated with luxury\, style\, or beauty help communities of the world to deal with today‘s challenges\, adapt to changed conditions\, and ensure the safety and connections between people? What is the role of design and designers in “rebooting” the world? \nDuring the virtual session\, creators and designers will present the most inspiring emergency design solutions from different cities around the world\, and UNESCO’s Creative Cities of Design coordinators and initiators will discuss the role of design in restoring the world. “We aim to discover the resilient mindset of the design cities and learn how we each tackle Covid-19 around the world. This will be a great inspiration and learning session\,” says Stijn Debaillie\, Deputy Coordinator of the UNESCO Creative Cities of Design subnetwork. \nThe international session will present a variety of design solutions in different cities around the world\, from protective masks and hoods\, graphic design solutions to aged care visitor pods and ways to mobilize the architectural community to address new urban challenges. \n\nThe discussion “The Power of Design in Response to the Global Crisis and Rebooting the World” on the Zoom platform will be broadcasted live from Kaunas on: \nTuesday\, July 14\, at 2 p.m. Local Time (2:00 PM EEST (Eastern European Summer Time)) \n Format: Zoom \n Organizers: UNESCO Creative Cities of Design & Kaunas 2022

SUMMARY:Contrei Live: art runs thicker than water
DESCRIPTION:Regional developer Leiedal\, partner of Designregio Kortrijk\, sets the stage for Contrei Live\, an arts trail on and off the water in the 13 cities and communities of South West Flanders. From 9 July to 26 October\, sixteen national and international artists\, architects and designers invite people on a meandering trail of artistic discovery throughout the region\, to reflect on water in a landscape theatre and to engage into dialogue on the importance of water as an ever more precious commodity. \n  \n\n211 entries\n13 communities\n16 artistic interventions\n3 bicycle loops\, \n100.000 visitors\n\n  \nIn February of 2019\, Leiedal made an open call to artists and designers all around\, suggesting a number of outstanding places with a clear link to water. Through Kortrijk Design Region\, the city of Kortrijk has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network since 2017\, which accordingly contributed to no less than 211 entries from artists and designers from over 35 countries worldwide. A panel of experts selected a number of them for Leiedal to check their practical\, logistic and financial viability. As a result\, at least one work of art will be shown in each of the 13 Leiedal communities. The grand total of 16 artistic interventions makes up an intriguing mix of land art\, landscape architecture\, sound art and kinetic installations. The interventions are tailored to the specifications of their particular site in the landscape or public space\, fortifying the aquatic acquaintance with the story of water. \n  \nContrei Live also provides wind at the back for bicycle tourism in South West Flanders\, with partners Toerisme Leiestreek and Westtoer helping to open up the arts trail by putting together three bicycle loops. Leiedal would like to motivate communities and other partners to orchestrate events\, lectures and guided visits as a side stage to the interventions. Leiedal aims to tempt up to 100\,000 visitors to come and admire the works of top artists like Zeli Bauwens\, Hans Peter Kuhn\, Matthijs la Roi\, Landlab\, Kevin Trappeniers\, Michel Desvigne\, Omgeving\, Esther Kokmeijer\, Niels Albers\, Willem Boel\, Jan Detavernier\, Patrick Ceyssens\, Rick Abelen\, Zilvinas Stasiulevicius\, Marco Barotti and Adrien Tirtiaux. \n  \nAll locals and visitors near and far are invited to tap into Contrei Live and be marvelled and carried by the region with water guiding the way. A user-friendly mobile website\, a free cycling card and (payable) visitors’ guide will pilot you along three cycling loops boasting some delightful deviations and stimulating stops. Students at Howest Digital Arts and Entertainment\, meanwhile\, have rendered Contrei Live in a game that can be played online. Educational packages will be made for schools. Contrei connects and invites young and old to come and discover their own country. \n  \nEn route with various partners\nAs for the organisation and realisation of the arts trail\, Leiedal can rely on the joint support of various and complementary partners. Some interventions are co-financed by Europe through the Interreg project DESIGN’IN supporting design methods for public space. Lining up with Kortrijk Design Region\, we can go all in for creativity and international appeal. On a supra-local level\, Contrei Live can look to considerable back-up\, both logistically and financially\, by De Vlaamse Waterweg (Flemish waterways). The Province of West Flanders is also on board and provides a strong added value in the field of recreational tourism know-how. The 13 local authorities will be backing the projects chiefly in logistics and communications. Leiedal’s sister organisation zuidwest will be supporting cultural initiatives. True to its strong affinity with arts\, Belgian bank Belfius did not hesitate to sponsor Contrei Live. \n  \n

SUMMARY:VIRTUAL EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE FORUM 2020 / CULTURE IN THE TIME OF CORONA
DESCRIPTION:Culture in the Time of Corona \nWhen confronted with any crisis\, the vital importance of culture and arts is revealed. Against the backdrop of the tragic economic and social catastrophe\, we are witnessing the resilience and ability of the creative sector to adapt quickly. We have seen the world’s most powerful cultural institutions fall and the creators lose their jobs overnight. This did not prevent the emergence of numerous art projects uniting the international community\, which inspired a spark of optimism and a sense of communion for those isolated at home. We have seen the value of digitisation of art and cultural treasures (this trend was given high priority in cultural policy in recent years)\, when the attendance of websites of cultural institutions has instantly increased hundreds of times. The pandemic which made the world stop has inspired cultural creators to look again at their mission\, to create alternative strategies of action\, educational and dissemination tools that have helped those isolated at home gather together for common discotheques and have brought culture directly to the courtyards of the quiet audience standing behind the apartment windows. \nWhat’s next? \nIt is predicted that the cultural sector\, the habits of our participation in culture and our social life will inevitably change\, but will it really happen and how? How can cultural and artistic creators prepare for the challenges of the future? What skills and innovations could be used to do so? How can international cultural cooperation be preserved when the European Union suffers from fragmentation caused by political battles? \nForum goes online \nThe organisers of Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 transfer the annual forum of the European Capital of Culture to the virtual space and\, together with the Creative Europe Desk in Lithuania\, initiate a discussion bringing together European artists\, cultural creators\, private and public sectors\, aimed at exchanging views on cultural innovations and the future. \nProgramme \nMay 20\n15:00 (EEST) The Role of Culture Defeating the Crisis \nToday the future of many cultural creators is being jeopardised\, yet progressive examples of cultural actions and adaptation provide hope that we are capable of getting over this critical time\, also becoming stronger and more resilient. This session is about the experiences of the cultural sector developed in a critical situation and the opportunities that have emerged. What is the real significance of culture in an emergency situation – is it a high-priority public interest and why? What insights on culture were triggered by the confrontation with the present crisis? How do European cultural creators and organisers experience quarantine and its consequences? \nMay 21 \nFinancing culture in the economy of uncertainty In the previous years\, the Culture Supporters’ Forum discussed the practical ways and sources of funding. We did communication and financing according to the well-established models of operation\, the improvement of which worked consistently\, with a light rhythm. Since 2019\, cultural organisations in the entire world found themselves living in uncertainty\, which\, after the closure of airlines and tourism services\, has gradually touched the internationalness of culture and its public funding strategies in the global programmes and funds. \nCan cultural organisations already see opportunities for forming a new face of the services provided by the Lithuanian cultural organisations? \nFrom the middle of March in Lithuania and even earlier in Europe\, all sponsors of culture – be they programmes or funds representing the public programmes\, had to review their ways of action\, their priorities\, rules of project administration\, and even the future. \n10:00 (EEST) Culture in the measures of management of the economic crisis // This session will run in Lithuanian. \nTo what extent will the global economic and social crisis become an opportunity? How have Lithuania’s key funding institutions adapted to the new environment? What concrete measures have been taken and how does this affect the normal financing model and context? These questions will be elaborated in the morning session on May 21 together with the representatives of the Lithuanian Council for Culture\, Invega\, as well as Lithuanian municipalities. \n15:00 (EEST) Local or international? Shifting priorities in public funding for culture \nDuring the session\, we will learn about the practice and opportunities offered by the special European Cultural Foundation\, the perspectives of the Creative Europe programme\, and what issues and choices are being considered by international mobility programmes – the Nordic Culture Point\, ASEF\, etc.? Generally speaking\, how are we supposed to deal with and what can we expect from the internationalness of culture? \n22 May  \n15:00 (EEST) Culture in the Post-Pandemic Future. Retooling \nIn times when it is hard to think about anything else but the crisis\, let us focus on the future. Life has changed. Everything is changing. Most agree – nothing will be the same as before. Or will it? What changes will last? What will the post-pandemic world look like? What is and will be the New Normal? Artists have always been the super sensitive predictors of worlds of the future\, envisioning new realities\, spaces\, and cosmoses which traverse the past\, the present and the future – the omnivirtual\, the post-apocalyptic\, the surreal… Or is it all real? \nWhat is next? Textile factories are making masks\, automobile plants are producing respirators\, perfumeries are making disinfectants. Will we all need to adopt new models to survive? What are the possible retooling scenarios for arts and culture? \n\nSponsors: Kaunas City Municipality\, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania\, Kaunas District Municipality \nOrganiser: Kaunas 2022 \nCo-organisers: Creative Europe Desk Lithuania\, Lithuanian Culture Institute \n  \nFurther Information \n–> here\nwww.forumas.kaunas2022.eu \n  \nContact details\nMarija Pulokaitė\nmarija@kaunas2022.eu\n \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n © Andrius Aleksandravicius\n \n \n \n \n \n © Andrius Aleksandravicius\n \n \n \n \n \n © Andrius Aleksandravicius\n \n \n\n  \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou are currently viewing a placeholder content from YouTube. DESCRIPTION:On April 29\, the theme exhibition of “The Design in the Epidemic” sponsored by Wuhan City of Design Promotion Center and Wuhan Design Industry Promotion Center opened in Zhai Yage\, the living room of Wuhan City of Design. The exhibition lasts from April 29 to the end of August\, and is mainly conducted through online platforms including the WeChat public account of the Wuhan City of Design and the VR full landscape exhibition. \nAt the beginning of 2020\,faced with the outbreak of Covid-19\,Wuhan\,City of Design of the UNESCO creative city has been shut down. In the battle against the epidemic\,Wuhan received encouragement and help from all over the world and saw numerous moving stories and many engineering miracles of Wuhan design. The theme exhibition of “The Design in epidemic” is to tell these touching stories of “the battle against epidemic” in the visual language that the designer is good at\, and to pay the highest tribute to the people who have dedicated themselves in the fight against the epidemic. \n  \n  \n© Chao Liu \nThe theme exhibition “Design in the Epidemic” is sponsored by Wuhan City of Design Promotion Center and Wuhan Design Industry Promotion Center\, organized by CITIC Engineering Design & Construction Co.\, Ltd.\, Wuhan Design Capital Operation Management Co.\, Ltd.\,  Engineering Art Research Center of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts\, Zhai Yage Museum and is strongly supported by Wuhan Urban and Rural Construction Bureau and Wuhan City of Design Engineering Design Industry Alliance. The exhibition consists of two themes\,the global battle against Covid-19 poster exhibition and Wuhan design\, battle against Covid-19. In the global battle against Covid-19 post exhibition \, 63 posters from 17 countries\, more than 30 creative cities from UCCN network showing support are on display. To express their gratitude to these countries and cities for their support\, the artists in Wuhan have also created posters which conveys their support and blessings in return. The Wuhan design\, battle against Covid-19 demonstrates through this art exhibitions the outstanding contributions and profound reflections of Wuhan designers in the epidemic. Meanwhile the exhibition shows the design process of engineering miracles such as “Leishenshan”\, “Huoshenshan” hospital and makeshift hospitals\, indicating the significance of the design in the critical moment and the meaning of design under the surface. \nWhat is the meaning of design? It is the social justice  safeguarding life. It is love and care for humans.Meanwhile it shows the mysterious and wonderful meaning of art. It is loyal to the country. It clarifies the truth. It also constantly gives new definitions and meanings to design. That’s the meaning of design\, and that’s design in the epidemic. \n  \n  \n© Chao Liu \n
