SUMMARY:Bilbao Bizkaia Design Week 2025
DESCRIPTION:Biotik Design: From Emergence to Regeneration \nBilbao Bizkaia Design Week (BBDW) is an annual initiative led by the City of Bilbao and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia to promote the creative industries as a driver of economic development and international visibility. Since 2014\, it has brought together professionals\, organizations\, students\, institutions\, and the general public to explore the role of design in shaping a better future. \nThis edition is committed to consolidating a radical paradigm: from design as a tool for consumption to design as a means to make life easier. In the face of an unprecedented eco-social crisis\, sustainability is no longer enough: it is urgent to regenerate. It is no longer possible to sustain human activity without first healing\, restoring\, and revitalising the ecosystems – human and natural – of which we are a part of\, and on which our existence depends. \nIn the face of an adverse present\, we are invited to imagine and build fertile futures; to work from interdependence and to activate processes that care for\, repair and restore value to the environment. Promoting life is not a design trend\, but a responsibility that also opens an opportunity. We propose to transform emergency into possibility. \nBBDW25 will include a wide range of activities that connect different sectors and communities. Highlights include: \n\nBBDW Laborategia: a collaborative workshop where design students from local universities will work in multidisciplinary teams to respond to real challenges proposed by the City Council’s Health and Consumer Department.\nUrban Action: A public intervention in the city that invites citizens to reflect and engage with the theme of regeneration.\nOpening Event on 20 November at the Ensanche Building\, the central hub of BBDW25.\nClosing Event on 28 November.\nCurated Programme: Activities proposed by invited organisations with a strong connection to design week and a commitment to the edition’s theme.\n\nBBDW25 aims to inspire collective reflection and action through design\, encouraging collaboration across disciplines and promoting design as a tool for positive change. \nread more

SUMMARY:Austrian Design Talks
DESCRIPTION:Austrian Design Talks at Schloss HolleneggWhere Design Meets Business – Real Insights\, No Buzzwords \nWhat happens when companies and designers sit down together and talk about their work? That’s what the Austrian Design Talks at Schloss Hollenegg are all about. Since 2018\, this event has brought together people who have already worked on a successful project – and are ready to share their story. \nIn a relaxed and open way\, clients and designers talk about how their project started\, what went well\, what was difficult\, and what they learned. These talks show: designers are not mysterious or difficult to understand – they are creative professionals who know how to work with businesses. \nWhat makes this event special: it’s not about theory or complicated language. It’s about real stories\, honest conversations\, and time for questions and discussion. Together with the audience\, we look at what makes a good partnership between design and business – and how design can create real value. \nIn 2025\, the Austrian Design Talks at Schloss Hollenegg will take place for the tenth time – still focused on one simple idea: Design can help businesses grow. Let’s talk about how. \n\n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger\n \n \n \n \n \n © miriamraneburger

SUMMARY:Berlin Fashion Week SS26: A Celebration of Sustainable and Inclusive Design
DESCRIPTION:From June 30 – July 3 2025\, Berlin will once again become a global stage for forward-thinking fashion during Berlin Fashion Week. With a strong focus on sustainability\, innovation\, and inclusivity\, the event reflects the city’s unique position at the intersection of design\, creativity\, and social change. \nThe official calendar\, now live\, features a rich mix of fashion shows\, exhibitions\, panels\, and presentations across the city. Emerging talents and established labels alike will present their latest collections\, many of which embrace circular design principles\, low-impact production methods\, and inclusive narratives. \nThis season\, Berlin continues to redefine what fashion can be—not just a style statement\, but a driver of transformation. As a UNESCO City of Design\, Berlin demonstrates how the fashion industry can contribute meaningfully to urban development\, cultural dialogue\, and environmental responsibility. \nHighlights of the week include the Berlin Contemporary selection\, spotlighting ten rising labels supported by the Senate Department for Economic Affairs\, Energy and Public Enterprises\, as well as community-driven formats such as STUDIO2RETAIL\, which bridges the gap between designers and the public with open studios\, in-store events\, and talks. \n  \nGmbH Show by Reference Studios on the 2nd of Februar 2025 at Berlin Fashion Week at KantGaragenPalast Kantstraße © Finnegan Koichi Godenschweger \nKasia Kucharska Show by Reference Studios on the 2nd of Februar 2025 at Berlin Fashion Week at KantGaragenPalast Kantstraße © Finnegan Koichi Godenschweger \nHighlights of this season’s Berlin Contemporary lineup include avant-garde collective GmbH\, architectural minimalists Haderlump\, and the dystopian silhouettes of LUEDER\, alongside international names like David Koma\, Gerrit Jacob\, and IOANNES. It presents ideas of bioregional and situated design practices through exemplary projects that are considered fundamental to redefining what the discipline of design is today and can be in the near future. A bioregional approach to design understands its territory as an ecosystem in all its complexity. It reconsiders ideas of value\, wealth and scarcity; it questions the fate of waste and resources; it rethinks the meaning of productivity and efficiency. \nread more \n\n

SUMMARY:BILBAO BIZKAIA DESIGN WEEK 2024
DESCRIPTION:How we can design with people and the environment in mind\, and what does it mean to design with life at the centre?\n\nBiotik Design: Territories for Life invites us to change the lenses with which we work in creative processes to adopt a transformative perspective in a current context that is increasingly complex. Designing biotically means observing and proposing from an ecological\, inclusive\, collaborative\, open source and experimental perspective. This tenth edition of BBDW proposes to rethink creative practices in order to orient them towards the design of a more sustainable\, fair and innovative future. \n  \nBBDW24 is organized around five narratives: \n\nExploring Experimental Innovation: explore and experiment with new ideas and technologies in design\, promoting curiosity\, critical thinking and social transformation through creative and speculative approaches.\nPromoting a sustainable future: promote responsible and conscious designs that optimise resources\, minimise externalities and foster a harmonious relationship with the natural environment.\nBuilding equality and diversity: create inclusive and equitable environments that appreciate and promote equality\, breaking down traditional paradigms and fostering diversity and reciprocity.\nEncouraging Collaborative Communities: foster collaboration and co-creation in urban and community design\, taking into account the needs and expectations of all the people involved\, and enhancing collective intelligence.\nEmbracing Open Creativity: develop open source design solutions that ensure free access\, distribution and reuse\, fostering community management of resources and the creation of the commons\n\n\nBilbao Bizkaia Design Week 2024 gives shape to the process where different audiences interact: from professionals\, organizations\, students and training centres related to design\, to other environments including public administrations\, associations and the general public. The activities proposed by the curator are linked together and related\, with the aim of generating a collective reflection with tangible results. \nKey concepts for the audience to digest and transform into proposals will be introduced by international speakers at Kaixo!\, the opening event. These include among others\, Gabriela Rendón\, architect and professor at the Parsons School in New York; and Martí Guixé\, industrial and interior designer who works between Barcelona and Berlin. \nBased on these ideas\, and after a Master class\, professionals and organizations from Bizkaia will generate a series of recommendations to activate a design that promotes living things in Bizkaia which will be set out in a “Decalogue of Biotic Design”. \nAt the Diseñatón\, approximately fifty students from nine design schools will respond to the challenges posed by local organizations linked to the narratives of Biotik Design\, and use the decalogue as a measure of the success of the proposals made. \nOn the other hand\, an Action and Installation developed by the international artist Maider López\, will focus on the capacity of citizens to build cities and care\, connecting BBDW24 with the general public. \nLastly\, Partekatu! closes the week with a festive event including some surprises to meet up and display the results of the collective process. \n\nC O N T A C T \nCarolina Gutiérrez Gabriel\nE: cgutierrez@bilbaoekintza.bilbao.eus \nF U R T H E R  I N F O R M A T I O N\nclick here \n  \n

SUMMARY:COVILHÃ CREATIVE WEEK 2024
DESCRIPTION:The Municipality of Covilhã is pleased to announce the third edition of Covilhã Creative Week (CCW)\, from November 8th to 14th 2024. \nThe event will be held under the theme “Design and the City” understanding the first as a fundamental tool for humanizing urban and peri-urban spaces\, which shape our collective and shared imaginations of the places we inhabit and experience. The city is not a final destination but a continuous\, open-ended project: a succession of spatial and temporal phases in which we\, its inhabitants\, participate daily and actively. It is\, therefore\, like a book that best narrates the history and transformations brought about “in” and “by” its communities. \nTherefore\, Covilhã Creative Week will present a diverse and open program to the community\, involving various local and national entities in multiple cultural activities. The Municipal Day for Culture\, November 8th\, marks the beginning of the celebrations and the third anniversary of our city’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Design. \nThe Municipality believes that “Weaving the Future” involves increasingly raising public awareness about the role of design in improving quality of life and in valuing endogenous resources of the territory\, whether through the promotion of inclusion and cultural\, social\, and environmental sustainability\, the preservation of a common heritage\, or the optimization of living conditions for everyone\, in the development of mobility\, and the promotion of accessibility to public spaces and services. In this context\, there will be showcases of multiple entities and entrepreneurs who contribute to developing a territorially-based creative ecosystem\, attracting the general community to the design culture. \n\nC O N T A C T \nE: covilha.criativa@cm-covilha.pt \nF U R T H E R  I N F O R M A T I O N \nclick here \n
