The idea for this publication was born on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Basque Designers’ Association and thanks to the support of many agents and local institutions during this period.
As many of the products included in this book summarising 25 years of EIDE demonstrate, design is about making a difference and changing lives. As a vehicle or culture, as a portrait of the production cycles of centuries and ages, design speaks for us. It expresses our aspirations as a society, as consumers and as human beings.
Indeed, we could say that Basque industry would be nothing without the role played by design. In this respect, innovation boosted by design has the capability to become strategic action, showing up through its catalysing role between technology and culture, or user knowledge and capacity to respond to its needs, tackling the scope as such and transcending the environment and the values it is after, providing new opportunity scenarios and making industry more competitive.
